Since the release its offical trailer, the new Child’s Play reboot has already been met with mixed reactions from long time fans of the franchise. Many seem thrilled that Chucky is getting a modern day touch up like Halloween and Pet Sematary, complete with a new hi-tech body and who knows what else. But just as many Chucky fans show open disdain for his futuristic return. This includes Jennifer Tilly, star of three Child’s Play movies. Tilly denounced the remake in a hilarious tweet where she playfully poses with the franchise’s Tiffany doll.

But perhaps these critics can be swayed with a brand new announcement from this past weekend’s WonderCon. It was announced that Star Wars star, Mark Hamill, will be the voice behind Chucky the murderous doll. At the movie’s WonderCon panel screenwriter Tyler Burton Smith admitted he didn’t have anyone in mind when he was drafting the script. Producer Seth Grahame-Smith then added that when it came time to make a choice, Hamill was the very first to come to mind.“We asked, thinking there was no way it would ever happen,” said Grahame-Smith, “and he said, ‘Yes.’ He was the first choice, a big swing, and it just happened.”

Hamill then posted a video to his social media accounts to coincide with WonderCon’s announcement, stating “I can’t wait to bring such an iconic character to life, and present him in a way you’ve never seen before. And remember, he’s more than just a toy — he’s your best friend.” Check out the video below.

Hamill’s voice will be appearing along side Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman and Brian Tyree Henry in the Lars Klevberg directed film, set to release June 21st! Check out the trailer below!
