Big news ahead of Comic Con this weekend!

Variety is reporting that Marisa Tomei — yes, that Marisa Tomei, from My Cousin Vinny and The Wrestler — has been offered the iconic character of Peter Parker’s legal guardian, Aunt May. She will play opposite the newly cast Tom Holland, who’s taking on the even more iconic role of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man.

There’s been no confirmation from either Sony or Marvel, so this could end up not being true, but it’s coming from a highly reputable source with Variety, so it’s likely that this is the case.

Tomei, should the rumor prove true, would be the youngest actress to play Aunt May, which has upset some fans. However, if we consider just how young they’re going with Peter Parker, it actually makes sense. Aunt May should be in her late 40’s/early 50’s, which Tomei falls in with perfectly. It also seems to go right along with them taking completely from the Ultimate Spider-Man series, which starts off at a much younger age for everyone.

So, now let’s just get Harry Osborne and Norman Osborne and J. Jonah Jameson and Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane Watson and Flash Thompson all cast.

Some truly exciting times lie ahead.
