Nintendo has surprised fans of the Mario franchise with the official trailer for the upcoming Paper Mario: The Origami King. This new game takes Mario back to the days of being a 2D paper plumber. The trailer opens with what appears to be a possessed origami Princess Peach asking Mario is he too will crease himself (get it like paper when it’s folded) and be reborn. Doesn’t matter what his answer is, Peach decides its better to just drop him through the trap door in the floor.
The rest of the trailer shows off the different worlds we are going to be able to explore and the new enemy, the Origami King Olly. But the emo king isn’t the only new character in Paper Mario: The Origami King, we are also getting Olivia. She is Mario’s new partner for this adventure. With her at his side, he will also team up with Bowser and the Toads to battle the King’s Folded Soldiers. The adventure promises to be full of paper puns and excitement.
Along with new characters, Paper Mario: The Origami King will also be getting new abilities and battles. One ability, in particular, is something that I am pretty sure every child has done at least once in their life. The 1,000 Fold Arms gives Mario the ability to extend his arms to interact with things out of reach. The new battle style features a ring-based battle system that requires some puzzle solving. This allows players to line up their enemies in order to maximize their attacks.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is a Nintendo Switch exclusive and will be available on July 17, 2020.
