Deadline reports rocker Marilyn Manson will join the cast of American Gods in Season 3. The third season, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel, will premiere in 2020.
Mason will play Johan Wengren, lead singer of the Viking death metal band Blood Death. Johan and the band are a source of power for Mr. Wednesday, aka Odin (Ian McShane) in his war with the New Gods. Manson’s character is not in the book and will appear in four episodes.
“As a long-time admirer of his estimable talent as an author, artist, musician and actor, it is dope indeed to be working with Mr. Manson in Season 3 of American Gods,” said season 3 showrunner Chic Eglee. “Bringing his specific energy, wit and boundless enthusiasm for all-things-Neil Gaiman to the role of Johan, a Norse ‘berserker’ in service to Odin, his performance promises to be disturbing, original and uniquely entertaining.”
American Gods tells the story of the recruitment of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) into a war between the Gods vs. the New Gods. Mr. Wednesday is still getting his ducks in a role on the series. So it will be interesting to see how Manson’s character will fit into his plans.
The series also stars Emily Browning, Crispin Glover, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Orlando Jones, Demore Barnes, Omid Abtahi, Mousa Kraishe and Kahyun Kim.
