According to Variety the highly regarded talent of Hannibal, Mads Miikkelsen, is in “early talks” to play a villain character in Marvel’s 2016 foray into magic, Doctor Strange, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role. The article goes on to mention that no offer has been made, but it’s expected. This means he’s been approached, that he’s interested and pretty much said yes. Now it’s just a matter of getting the terms right.

Other than that, the only other information we have is that it’s “one of” the villain roles. We already know Chiwetel Ejiofor is cast as Baron Mordo, the quintessential Doctor Strange villain. The only other big Doctor Strange villain that Mr. Mikkelsen could be is Dormammu, the demon demagogue that rules over the Dark Dimension.

It’s entirely possible that he’ll play one of the Lords of Shamballa, a source that director Scott Derrickson has pointed to as inspiration more than a few times. It’s also entirely possible that he’s Doctor Strange’s first villain, Nightmare, the dark ruler of the dream dimension.

Or maybe the evil Sorcerer Genesis Sise-Neg, who goes back to the beginning of time, in the story Time Doom, to make himself the Lord of Creation. That’s a role Mads could really excel at, yes?

Also, we should note that the article says “one of” the villain roles, which seems to indicate that there are multiple villains stacked up in this film. Makes sense. If Strange is tripping from dimension to dimension, then certainly he’s bound to come across multiple malevolent entities.

But who else… who else?
