The movie description for Madame Web on the Sony Pictures press site opens with “Meanwhile, in another universe…” Madame Web comes from Sony Pictures, the studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Kraven and Morbius. However, this preamble emphasizes that this is a standalone story, and one that takes place on an entirely different timeline from those other Spider-Man related stories.

The first poster centers Johnson as the titular character. However, even if you are familiar with Madame Web from the panels of Marvel Comics, this Variant is, as they say, built different. According to the movie description, this incarnation of Web is a paramedic who may be clairvoyant. After confronting revelations about her own past, Web realizes she’s connected to a trio of women destined for greatness. On the second poster, Webb is joined by these women: Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Connor) and Anya Corazon (Isabela Merced). Also appearing is antagonist Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). The movie will also star Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet.
Madame Webb is directed by SJ Clarkson. It is from a screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Claire Parker & Clarkson, with a story by Kerem Sanga and Sazama & Sharpless.
