The Luke Cage cast just got a little bit bigger with the announcement today that Sonia Braga has joined the cast as Soledad Temple — the mother to Claire Temple, played by Rosario Dawson. This is a pretty big win for Marvel and Netflix as Braga is an Emmy-award nominated actress.

As Luke Cage EP, Cheo Hodari Coker said, “Sonia Braga? Rosario Dawson? ‘Nuff said. I’m tuning in. When it came to finding someone who was both formidable yet possessed a light touch, Sonia was the perfect choice and has been a Godsend.”

Jeph Loeb went on to say, “A character as strong as Claire needs an equally powerful mother, and with Sonia we found the perfect actress to deliver the stellar performance we needed. In Marvel’s Luke Cage, fans will now get a chance to see where Claire got the fire we love her for.”

Luke Cage made his television debut just this week in Jessica Jones, played by actor Mike Colter. The series is currently filming for release later next year and stars Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Frank Whaley as Detective Rafael Scarfe and Mahershala Ali as Cornell Cottonmouth.
