In “Somebody’s Been Reading Dante’s Inferno,” we find out what Chloe is really up to and how it affects her relationship with Lucifer (Tom Ellis). Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside) officially moved to LA. Vacation

It turns out that Chloe and Trixie’s (Scarlett Estevez) vacation was to Rome. And while there, Chloe did some research on Lucifer.  That’s where she met the priest, Father Kinley (Graham McTavish). He is well aware of who Lucifer is, but he can’t do anything about it. Father Kinley recruits Chloe to do something for him. He impresses upon her that as long as Lucifer walks the Earth, death and destruction will follow him.

Chloe has a hard time believing him. The Lucifer she knows is nothing like the Devil described in the Bible. Being a detective, she goes over newspaper clipping and photos that Kinley has collected. Chloe says it’s all circumstantial. Kinley says Lucifer isn’t supposed to be on Earth and he insists that only Chloe can send the devil back to Hell. He gives her a vial with a sedative in it. The plan is to knock out Lucifer then Kinley will take it from there.  Did I mention that Kinley specializes in exorcisms?

Back in the present, Chloe and Ella (Aimee Garcia) are chit-chatting about Ella’s new hobbies. Ella has decided that God doesn’t exist, so she stopped going to church. What’s a girl to do with all of this free time? Raise chickens.

Amenadiel tells his brother that he’s staying in town. Lucifer is too nervous to care. He’s confused by Chloe and how she is handling the truth about him. He confesses that he kissed Chloe, but he doesn’t know exactly where they stand. Amenadiel is amused and tells Lucifer to seize The day and ask Chloe on a date.

Oh and Dan is still brooding over Charlotte and still blames Luci for her death. He moves his desk from Chloe’s so he doesn’t have to interact with the Devil. He is keeping busy and doesn’t have much time to hang out with Amenadiel.

Later, Amenadiel questions his decision to stay in LA. He has no friends and can’t seem to make any. He needs a purpose, a job…a reason to stay.

Maze and Linda are hanging out more but at Lucifer’s apartment. Maze doesn’t feel comfortable at Chloe’s place anymore. Linda says that Chloe needs time to adjust. She understands how scary it can be to find out the Devil and demons are real. But Maze shouldn’t take anything Chloe does or says personally.

Linda is very energetic and bouncy. She is ready to learn more from Maze, but Maze just wants to relax. Linda continues to bounce around the apartment and then collapses, scaring Maze. Maze examines Linda for any medieval causes to her fainting. Linda says she’s fine and is probably dehydrated.  Regardless, Maze insists that Linda see a doctor.

The Case

A murder has occurred on the set of a reality TV show. The victim is Melinda Hagey, a school teacher and fan favorite of the show. She was found dead by a lagoon. Ella points out signs of struggle around the body and a large contusion on the back of her head.

Chloe and Luci meet the show’s executive producer, Maury Novak (Dave Davis). He says the cameras are turned off when the guests are sleeping so there is no footage of the murder. Chloe shuts down production while they are investigating and Ella asks for all of the unaired footage.

Luci continues his long drawn out the request for a date and Chloe beats him to it. They agree to go to dinner later.  Chloe obviously has an ulterior motive, but Lucifer is really excited.

The first piece of evidence is something called the Teflon Totem. It was found in Melinda’s pocket but she’s not the rightful owner. Another contestant, the villain of the show, Judd (Zach Scheerer) found it first. Chloe and Luci assume he got angry that she stole the totem and killed her. But Judd is actually a good guy who just plays a villain on TV. He also has an alibi that checks out. He gives them a warning that no one is who they seem. After talking to Judd, Luci tries to solidify a time for their date, but Chloe is in deep thought about the case.

Chloe interviews all of the contestants and finds out that Melinda was hooking up with someone, but they all name someone different. One contestant, Kylie (Lyndon Smith) says she didn’t talk to Melinda because she was fake. Chloe concludes that Judd was right. No one is who they seem.

That leads Luci and Chloe into a conversation about who he really is. Chloe did a lot of research on the Devil and didn’t like what she found. She starts asking him questions regarding what most people believe about the Devil. Primarily that he kills and tortures people. Luci has only killed on human…Pierce. But he did torture a lot of people because it was his job. A job he was forced into. When they are done, Luci can’t help but be bothered by Chloe’s perception of him.

Pretty Woman

Luci gets ready for his date with Chloe. He has picked a Pretty Woman-themed date, complete with an elegant red dress. Ella is over the moon about their date. She’s way more excited than Chloe is. Luci is a little uneasy though. He confides in Miss Lopez saying Chloe is acting odd like she’s hiding something. Ella says it’s just nerves.

Chloe watches Ella and Luci talk and laughs together. She looks at the vial of sedatives and postpones her date. She tells Luci that she wants to wait until after the case is solved. Ella is really sad, but Luci tries to remain positive.

Chloe meets with Father Kinley to tell him the deal is off. The monster he described is not the man she knows. He tells her the same story. Lucifer doesn’t belong on Earth…where he goes, death and destruction follow…they can’t do this without her…blah, blah, blah. Kinley senses that he losing Chloe and says that Luci is manipulating her. He will do anything and be anyone to get what he wants. Chloe isn’t so sure. She doesn’t want to believe that Luci lied to her.

Holy Rum Balls

Chloe sees Lucifer arrive at the station with donuts and greeting everyone as he walks in. It’s obvious that everyone likes him. But they have a job to do so she turns her attention back to the case. Ella called them in to discuss the contents of Melinda’s stomach. It’s pretty normal but Ella found the ingredients for rum balls. The contestants were on a strict, natural food diet, so where did she get the rum balls?

Luci and Chloe go to the set and find rum balls at the production green room. They tell Maury that Melinda had eaten rum balls within an hour of her death. Maury admits the dessert is his so Luci tries to handcuff him. He’s ready to close the case, but Chloe stops him to hear Maury’s story. Maury admits to giving Melinda the rum balls in exchange for a favor. Melinda was the fan favorite, so he devised a way for her to dramatically win the contest to boost the ratings. She didn’t go for it though.

Luci doesn’t believe him and accuses Maury of having an affair with Melinda and killing her. He gets agitated with Maury because he’s so eager to close the case. Chloe pulls Luci back and accuses him of only caring about himself. Lucifer is taken back by her accusation and leaves her to conduct her investigation alone.

Secret Affair

Maury shows Chloe footage of Melinda and Kylie kissing in the shower. Chloe wants to question Kylie again. They look at the cameras on the cast, but Kylie isn’t there. Maury spots her breaking the gas line on a cabin. She sets the cabin on fire just as Lucifer goes into that same cabin. Luci is okay though. He is the Devil, remember?

Chloe is amazed that he survived without a scratch. Kylie runs up to apologize, saying she was afraid she did it again. She comes clean about her relationship with Melinda. She was shocked that Melinda liked her and got really jealous when she saw Melinda go into Maury’s tent. Even though she knew they weren’t hooking up, Kylie knew Melinda was hiding something from her. They fought and Kylie pushed Melinda in the lagoon. Melinda hit her head when she fell, but Kylie left without checking on her. Kylie believes she killed Melinda.

The police arrest Kylie, closing the case. Luci is happy but detects that Chloe isn’t. He doesn’t want to pressure her into anything she doesn’t want to do. But Chloe insists on going on the date and arranges to meet him at his place.

The Date

Chloe arrives at Lucifer’s apartment and they sit down for dinner. Luci says he’s glad there are no more secrets between them. He will answer any questions she has. He says he’s always been honest with her and always will be.

Lucifer puts on some music and Chloe pulls out the vial. The music starts but it’s so loud that it startles Chloe. She knocks over his glass of wine and drops the vial. Luci cuts his hand picking up the glass and Chloe is confused. She doesn’t understand how he can survive an explosion minute and bleed from glass the next. She asks if he does that to make her feel bad. Lucifer says he is vulnerable when he’s close to her, but he doesn’t know why.

Camera 1, Camera 2

They are interrupted by a message from Ella. The autopsy report shows that Melinda died from a blunt force trauma to the head, but it wasn’t from her fall. Someone hit her with a square object at least three times in the head. Chloe has an idea of who the real killer is and leaves. Lucifer offers to go with her, but she says she needs to do it on her own. Of course, he follows her though.

Chloe goes to the camera room and asks to see the camera equipment. She makes small talk with the cameraman, Tiko (Cameron Gharaee) while examining a camera battery. Tiko has worked on the show for all 27 seasons, so he’s seen it all. While she is examining the battery, Tiko grabs an ax. Chloe senses danger and reaches for her gun, but Tiko stops her.

Tiko had an agreement with Melinda. He makes her look good so she can win and Melinda promised to split the winning prize with him. But then Kylie got in the way. After the fight between Kylie and Melinda, Tiko thought their deal was back on, but it wasn’t. He got tired of watching the contestants win a lot of money for doing nothing.

Tiko throws the ax at Chloe and Lucifer runs in to block it. The ax misses Luci but pins him to a wooden pillar. Chloe draws her gun and shoots Tiko in the leg. More cops show up and arrest Tiko.

Chloe checks on Luci and he’s okay. She holds the ax to his chest and asks if it would really kill him because she’s near him. It would. She’s shocked that he jumped in front of the ax knowing he could die. Lucifer says he would do it again and again. Chloe pressed so hard on the ax that it cuts him and he bleeds.  She apologizes and tries to wipe up the blood.

New Beginnings

Earlier in the day, Linda’s doctor called her to update her on her condition. She fainted because she’s pregnant!  Later, Linda finds Amenadiel sitting at Lux. She tells him the good news and all he can do is smile at her.

Chloe meets with Father Kinley the next morning. She gives the vial back and says she’s not going to help him hurt Luci. Father Kinley says they can’t do it without her. Chloe figures out that Kinley knew Lucifer was vulnerable around her. She thinks Lucifer’s vulnerability is proof that he has changed. She hopes Father Kinley will see things her way some day.

Luci sits at home, playing his piano when Chloe texts him asking for a re-do date. The elevator opens and Father Kinley steps out. He’s there to warn Lucifer about Chloe Decker.
