Ever wonder what Lucifer would look like as a cartoon? Yeah, me neither. In “Yabba Dabby Do Me,” Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) get trapped in a Hell loop to help the one person Lucifer hates the most.

Lucifer is still trying to prove to himself that he can be God. He starts by telling Linda (Rachael Harris) that she is wrong about helping someone he didn’t care about. She says the answers can sometimes be found in the past. They reminisce about the first time they met. It was a murder case. Luci’s friend and Linda’s patient Delilah was murdered by a record producer who wanted to cash in on her death. Luci decides to find that guy and help him because there’s no way he’d ever care about the man.
Ella (Aimee Garcia) kept the frog that landed on her car. Luci stops by for her help and she mentions something about the frog being tied to something mind, body and soul altering. Sounds interesting, but Lucifer needs her to look up Jimmy Barnes in the criminal database. His last known whereabouts was a mental hospital, but he’s not there anymore. He’s actually dead.
Lucifer tells Chloe that he’s going to Hell to look for Jimmy and help him. Chloe wants to go and thinks the angel necklace will help her survive Hell. At first Lucifer says no, but they are partners so they leave immediately.
Dan (Kevin Alejandro) arrives with the new Angel (Brianna Hildebrand) and tries to warn Lucifer about her. He’s obviously not there and while they wait, Dan discovers that he’s a ghost. This amuses the young angel. Dan tries to use “Dad psychology” and tells the Angel that hurting Lucifer will only hurt herself. She just laughs in his face.
Chloe and Lucifer have a hard time finding Jimmy’s Hell loop but when they do, they walk right into a cartoon. The door to the loop disappears and Luci has no powers. Luci made Jimmy go crazy before he died. Chloe thinks if they find Jimmy and stabilize him, maybe they can get out.
Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside) meets his training officer Sonia Harris (Merrin Dungey). Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Ella watch from outside as he awkwardly introduces himself. Ella says Harris is one of the toughest trainers and she has a high turnover rate of recruits. This isn’t good for Amenadiel.
Amenadiel and Harris get their first call. A vandalism call that turns out to be Maze. She is trying to make Amenadiel look good, but he admits that he knows her. Harris says vandalism leads to more serious crimes. She takes Maze to a women’s shelter for help. But the situation is also a test for Amenadiel to see if he thinks criminals can be reformed. And he does. Harris says the real police force is correcting the behavior by giving criminals opportunities to change.
Chloe and Lucifer interrupt a cartoon wedding to beat up the fake devil. That leads them to the 1980s when Jimmy (James Immekus) started out as a record producer. He was dumped by his first band. They said he would only get in the way. When they say that, a hologram of a woman appears next to Jimmy. Lucifer says that’s not normal.
Afterward, Jimmy gets into an argument with his girlfriend and he tells her to leave. Lucifer interjects and mojos Jimmy to find out what his greatest desire is. Jimmy says he doesn’t want her to leave and runs after his girlfriend. But that’s not who he was talking about. A door appears, but Luci wants to see this through with Jimmy first.
They transport back in time to when Jimmy was a kid (Anderson Bloomberg). The mystery woman is his mother. Jimmy is watching cartoons when she tells him that she will be right back. His mother picks up a guitar and a suitcase. She meets a man at the door. The man says the boy is only holding her back. His mother left and never came back.
Child Protective Services eventually came and took him. Lucifer and Chloe see how painful it is for Jimmy so Luci stops the loop and rewinds it to when his mother was still there. He can’t take Jimmy out of Hell, but he can make it more bearable for him.
Lucifer and Chloe leave the Hell loop. Before they go, Chloe wants to see Dan. On the way, Luci realizes that he cares about Jimmy. If he can care about Jimmy, he can care about anybody and help them. He thinks he’s ready to be God. When they get to the Hell loop, Dan is gone.
Amenadiel finds Maze at Lux. He says she could have screwed everything up for him. Maze saye she was trying to help him because she’s his friend. He thanks her and says it’s important to him. He asks her to let him be and she agrees. They basically shouted this whole conversation at each other. Maze says she won’t make fun of him but they both know that’s not true.
Lucifer calls around looking for Dan only to find him in the penthouse. Dan tries to warn him about the young angel, but she rushes through Dan and pins Lucifer against the wall. She yells at him that she’s hated him for years. She can finally have her revenge. He says he doesn’t know who she is. She yells that she’s his daughter.
