IS THIS REALLY HOW IT’S GOING TO END?

Lucifer (Tom Ellis) decided to speak to the swing votes among his brothers and sisters one by one to gain support for his campaign to be God. It’s not going so well though. Everyone can’t forget about that little rebellion that Luci staged so long ago. He entices his sister Saraqael (Ginifer King) with a night with Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio. Before she agrees, she asks why he wants to be God so badly. He doesn’t have a real answer and Saraqael needs to think about his offer a little more.

Chloe (Lauren German) has a billion questions about her role as God’s partner. She announces to the station that she’s retiring. Ella (Aimee Garcia) is super upset about her announcement but gets angrier when she finds out that Lucifer is leaving too. They are telling everyone that Lucifer is taking over the family business. They told Ella that was in Florida. Dan (Kevin Alejandro) on the other hand is happy for Chloe.

Dan plays a really cute unicorn game with Trixie (Scarlett Estevez). We rarely get to see Dan and Trixie together. He’s a good dad and lets her win. But come one. She’s wearing more colorful clothing, so she’s bound to win every unicorn game.

Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside) stops by and says he wants to be a cop. Dan laughs at first. Not that Amenadiel couldn’t do it, but he’s an angel. He’s almost God and his skill set is different. Amenadiel is hurt because he thought Dan would be excited for him.

Dan is also trying to set up Ella on a date with his friend Carol. Yes, that’s a guy. Ella doesn’t want to even look at guys right now and declined his invitation. But Dan is persistent and gives her Carol’s phone number anyway.

Mazi-Queen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) tries on her Queen of Hell outfits for Linda (Rachael Harris). She wants to look scary and authoritative. Linda senses she might be worried about being Queen of Hell now that she has a soul. But really Linda doesn’t want Maze to go. Maze says she has to because the alternative is worse.

THE CASE

Jonathan Donnelly is found in a wine cellar. It looks like he was tortured before being killed. He was a tech in the medical examiner’s office. There is a partial size 13 boot print at the scene, but they won’t be able to get anything from it. He got a really mean text from someone named a psychic. Jonathan and the psychic were involved in a money-making scheme. Jonathan would take a family heirloom off a body at the ME’s office and used targeted ads to lead the family to the psychic. The psychic would then give the family a reading and they would recover their property. Everyone wins.

The psychic has an alibi, she was giving a reading the night Jonathan died. There were some families who didn’t go to the psychic to find their items. Jonathan would give those items to someone named TJ who then sold the item on the black market.

When Lucifer and Chloe find TJ (Kevin Douglas), they also find that someone else has been there going through his things. He also has a bunch of stolen goodies in his house and a size 13 boot print. TJ comes home and doesn’t want to talk to the police. He pushes Lucifer across the room and then jumps over a wall. It’s like he has superhuman strength.

Team Lucifer goes over the case and decides that someone is looking for stolen goods and killing people along the way. Ella tries to show everyone how exciting working on the case is so Chloe and Luci will change their mind about leaving. They decide to find TJ and that should lead them to the killer. They also need to go through TJ’s client list that has over 100 people. Dan offers to go through the client list. Luci goes to find out why TJ has superhuman strength and Chloe tries to track down where TJ is.

SWING VOTE

Lucifer finds Maze at Linda’s house and asks if any demons are on Earth. He tells her about TJ. She hasn’t heard anything and says there is a sure way to get Hell under control. Make her Queen. Luci tells her to keep an eye out for rogue demons. He has the election under control. But does he? He has one more swing vote to talk to and that angel hates Lucifer. The devil has a plan though to get that vote.

Luci meets with Zadkiel (Joel Rush) and says he was wrong about his rebellion. He says he did it for the wrong reasons but he’s changed. He says his time on Earth helped him get over his Daddy issues. Zadkiel almost believes him, but he will never support Lucifer. He just came for the whiskey and to watch Lucifer grovel.

Luci has a breakdown and tells Zadkiel the real reason he wants to be God. He wants to be God so he will finally be worthy of Chloe. Luci says he’s doing it for the wrong reasons, but he doesn’t care. All he cares about is Chloe and he will make it happen no matter what the cost.

Dan pays a visit to one of TJ’s clients to warn her about the murder streak. But it’s too late. There is a man behind the door pointing a gun at the woman. Dan leaves but steps to the side of the house to call for backup. That’s when another man steps up with a gun and tells Dan to hang up.

SCARY SITUATION

When the police get there, the woman is already dead and there’s no sign of Dan. They know it’s the same person who killed Jonathan. Ella gets nervous, but Chloe calms her down and says they need to do the work to find any sign of Dan. Lucifer finds one immediately. Dan’s phone is in the flowerbed. This makes Chloe nervous. They also find dog tags in a nearby drain.

The dog tags belong to Sayeed Faisal (Mo Anouti). He’s Algerian and is linked to a ruthless mercenary group led by Vincent Le Mec (Rob Benedict). The file on the mercenary group says they are impossible to find because they never leave witnesses. Chloe is really worried now and gets sad that Dan is missing. Ella promises that they will find Dan. Maze shows up and is angry that someone took Dan. Lucifer pulls her aside and says time is of the essence. The only way to find a criminal is to ask other criminals. Good thing the Devil has a lot of favors to call in. He tells Maze to call in all of his favors.

Sayeed and Vincent have Dan tied up and are beating him up. They want to know where TJ is, but Dan doesn’t know. Vincent doesn’t believe him. He shows Dan pictures of TJ and a grave. Dan has no idea what the grave is about. He can’t answer their questions so they keep hitting him. Someone calls Vincent. He says one word. Police. He gives Sayeed a look and Sayeed pulls out his gun.

Chloe works with Luci and Amenadiel to try and come up with some answers about TJ. They know he’s not a demon but wonder if Michael is involved somehow. Amenadiel checked with Remiel who says Michael is in the Silver City. Maze returns with a list of places where Vincent could have taken Dan. It’s a lot of ground to cover and Chloe says no one is to go anywhere alone.

FALLEN HERO

Sayeed points the gun at Dan’s head. Dan mumbles something. Sayeed has to lean in to hear him and Dan head-butts him. The two men fight. Dan is able to choke Sayeed to sleep. He starts to run away and hears a single gunshot. Dan turns around and sees Vincent pointing a gun at him. Vincent shoots him two more times in the chest. Dan falls to the ground.

Chloe finds Dan, but he’s barely hanging on. He keeps saying the name, Caleb. Dan says he held on to tell her that it’s Caleb. Chloe yells for help. Dan says to tell Trixie that he loves her and will miss making unicorn armies with her. He’s scared and Chloe tells him to breathe. Dan says goodbye to Chloe and passes out as the paramedics arrive.

Everyone meets at the hospital while Dan is in surgery. The doctor approaches Chloe to let her know that Dan didn’t make it. Trixie arrives and asks for her dad. Chloe has the hard job of telling her that her dad is dead. Trixie asks Lucifer to bring him back but he can’t. Chloe holds Trixie as she cries for her daddy.

PIECES OF A PUZZLE

Amenadiel approaches Lucifer and asks why this happened. Luci doesn’t know but mentions Dan’s last words were about someone named Caleb. Amenadiel knows exactly who Caleb is. Caleb Mayfield is a boy that Amenadiel befriended last season. When he was killed, Amenadiel laid his necklace on Caleb’s body. Luci thinks Michael (Ellis) hired the mercenaries to get the necklace. Jonathan stole it before they could dig up the grave and gave it to TJ. That explains TJ’s superhuman strength.

The necklace is a piece of the Flaming Sword. Azrael’s blade is death. The hilt is to find love and the necklace is the strength that binds them together. The hilt was activated when Azrael’s blade was on Earth. Luci threw Azrael’s blade into the Goddess’ universe. And then sent Gabriel to send her a message. Gabriel is working with Michael to assemble the Flaming Sword. He‘s not trying to win an election, he’s trying to win a war.

Luci checks on Chloe and Trixie. Chloe thinks it should have been her going to the house. It was her case and she let him go alone. She asks Luci if this is all about something bigger. Luci says in order for him to be God, he has to go to war with Michael.

Luci tells Chloe that he was trying to be God so he will be worthy of her. Chloe gets a little upset that Lucifer doesn’t know how she feels about him. And if that’s the case, then his siblings are right and he shouldn’t be God.

IT’S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE

A lot of people show up for Dan’s funeral. Ella meets Carol Corbett (Scott Porter), Dan’s friend. She asks him to save her a seat and excuses herself to talk to Amenadiel. Amenadiel feels bad about the last things he said to Dan. Ella tells him that the day Dan died, he turned in Amenadiel’s application to the police academy.

Amenadiel tells Lucifer that he went to see Dan in Heaven but he’s not there. Luci thought Daniel dealt with his guilt, but it’s more complicated than that. Luci says it’s not fair and Amenadiel agrees that none of it is.

Amenadiel gives the eulogy, saying Dan taught him how to be a good father and a good man. Sometimes Dan forgot how good he was, but he was the best of them. What happened to Dan isn’t fair, but everyone should take comfort in knowing he’s in a better place. Amenadiel says Dan is and always will be his best friend. Lucifer and Ella sing It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye.

AVENGING ANGEL

Later Maze and Lucifer find Sayeed, Vincent, and their mercenaries. Maze kills everyone except Vincent, saving him for Lucifer. Lucifer goes full devil on Vincent. He whispers something in Vincent’s ear that scares him to the point of tears. Lucifer and Maze leave him crying on the floor.

Lucifer goes to Linda to discuss what they did after Dan’s funeral. She asks how he feels, but Luci doesn’t think his feelings matter. Linda tells him to acknowledge that he’s grieving. Lucifer says her job shouldn’t exist. Pain should not exist. Linda says that’s life. Pain is inevitable. Lucifer gets angry saying the system is broken. Trixie shouldn’t have to suffer the pain of losing her father and Dan shouldn’t be dead. The system is unjust. Linda says he can’t control everything bad that happens. He can only control how it affects him. Lucifer says she’s wrong. There is something he can do. He wanted to be God for the wrong reasons. Now he has to be God. He’s going to war.
