Lucasfilm announced on StarWars.com that Jon Favreau will write and executive produce a Star Wars live action series for the Disney’s new streaming service. This will be Favreau’s first time writing and producing for Lucasfilm.  

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform.  Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.” – Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Favreau has previously worked for Lucasfilm as an actor in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series and he will appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story later this year. Favreau is most known for his work with Marvel. He starred in and directed Marvel’s Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and was an executive producer for Avengers.  He has worked for Disney on the live action The Jungle Book and is currently working on the live action adaptation of The Lion King.

The untitled Star Wars series does not have a release date.  The Disney streaming service is set to start streaming later next year. Geek Girl Authority will be keeping an eye on this story as it develops.
