Boy, we just had one hell of a Star Wars weekend. And while we didn’t get anything from the latest spinoff film at the convention, the untitled Han Solo movie, we did get to hear some things. Talking with MTV, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, she was able to calm some people down. A bit.
During the press conference at Star Wars Celebration, MTV spoke with Kennedy about a number of things including the future of the saga, spinoff films and more. They mentioned how die hard fans were upset that it was announced we’d find out “Han Solo’s name”. Kennedy elaborated further. “I’m not sure that’s entirely what Bob (Iger) meant. There’s more to Han Solo’s name but it’s not that it’s not his name. It’s obviously his name, it will always be his name.”

Interesting. While she’s not denying that there is something going on with his name, she’s playing down the alarm. Right now nothing is certain but you may put on your speculation hats just for a moment. It’s possible that his name is longer and it’s trimmed down. His mentor, played by Woody Harrelson, could give him the shortened name. Either way, Lucasfilm will have to be very careful. He’s a legacy character – one that’s very deeply adored. Any wrong move and fans will be very angry. Let’s hope Lucasfilm really know what they’re doing!
