Low Oxygen astronaut

Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite Free-2-Play games. The video game market is oversaturated, and sometimes, hidden gems fall through the cracks. This is where we dig for you and feature a new F2P game we know you will enjoy every week. Let’s dive in.

Low Oxygen

In Low Oxygen, you’ll help your little astronaut explore an abandoned facility on the planet you’ve crash-landed, solving puzzles with strange plants along the way. His mission now is just to make it back home in one piece.

The Basics

Low Oxygen is a compact puzzle platformer about an astronaut that crash-landed on an alien planet, trying to find a way to return home. The main puzzle mechanic revolves around the strange flora you’ll discover, plants that grow when they are ridden of their oxygen supply.

Both the puzzle and platforming controls are responsive and tight, making picking up the gameplay relatively simple. The puzzles themselves are compelling, with increasing levels of difficulty that always feel fair. While going through the game’s 50 levels, I noticed the aesthetic and gameplay reminded me of a mix of Among Us and Terraria

Why Should I Play?

So, why should you play Low Oxygen? Firstly, I want to talk about the length of the game. I got under two hours of playtime in that all felt varied and interesting. This is a surprising amount of life for a free game, and I loved it.

This is one game you can skip the sound on; there isn’t even any ambient noise. The musical tracks are not particularly varied and can become grating after a while, especially if you are working to solve a puzzle for any amount of time. Now, if you need to sit idle, there is an adorable animation your character does, making hanging around worth it.

Speaking of adorable, the art style is amazing, with a cute style that clashes with some of the darker tones of the story elements in a charming way. The color palette is light and lends to easily identifying interactive items in the environment. Overall, I’d love to see future expansions or quality-of-life updates for this game and would gladly replay it.
