Sometimes a trailer comes along and you sigh dreamily from the story, music and atmosphere. That’s what The Shape of Water trailer is. From creative mastermind Guillermo del Toro, we got our first look at a love story that goes beyond words.

If I told you about her, the princess without a voice, what would I say? Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is a mute janitor, working at a government laboratory that is highly reminiscent of Rapture from BioShock 2. She and her friend Zelda (Octavia Spencer) come across an amphibious man in a tank while cleaning the facility, prompting Elisa’s interest. She forms a deep bond with the creature but finds that Strickland (Michael Shannon) is only using him for testing, even torturing the creature. Elisa’s love seems to get her deeper and deeper in trouble as she tries to save her new companion.

Maybe it has to do with the soft French song but this trailer was just dreamy. The 1960s setting with a touch of fantasy is immediately intriguing, with the story pulling you in. With a mute woman as the main character, we’re bound to really feel Hawkins performance. And from the trailer alone, she’ll be pulling on all the heart strings in this seemingly tragic love story. Can’t wait to see more.

In 1963, in a hidden, high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment.

The Shape of Water is currently set to be in theaters December 8th
