Those sneaks over at Entertainment Weekly snuck in another big Marvel piece yesterday without one single warning to any of us!

Daredevil!

Yesterday’s “First Look” issue that gave us our first epic looks at Doctor Strange also gave us our first official stills for the next Marvel series to be put out by Netflix, Daredevil Season Two, which is slotted to return early in 2016.

We got our first full look at Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher. He doesn’t have the skull on his chest quite yet, but he does have a gun and a wrench and Daredevil chained to some brick.

The article describes him as “a vigilante who has the same clean up the streets mission as Murdock, except he uses guns instead of fisticuffs and simply murders every criminal he can find.” They also say of him that he is an “unstoppable menace” reminiscent of The Terminator and that he is “a merciless, binary-thinking antihero who simply wants to kill all the bad guys — and he’ll have a lot of scarily enthusiastic supporters, on-screen and off.”

Interesting that they mention he’ll have a lot of supporters rooting for him in the series. This could give us a further idea of just what Matthew Murdock, played by actor Charlie Cox, will be up against this season. As a hero who does his job but refuses to kill, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out when the neighborhood is crying out for blood.

The article also tells us that we’ll see Punisher much earlier than you might think, saying, “The premiere opens with Daredevil in action, and he’s locking horns with the Punisher by the end of the first hour.” Show runner Doug Petrie says, “The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in. We hit the ground running and then we ran as fas as we f—king could.”

Finally, Petrie says of The Punisher that, “Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves,”

And then there’s Elektra Natchios, played by Elodie Yung.

Elektra, described as “Murdock’s lethal love interest,” and a “double-dagger carrying” and “ethically challenged assassin.” Petrie adds to this saying, “she’s the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have.” He then goes on to describe their relationship pretty damn near perfectly, saying,

“She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”

We also get an idea of this relationship with a small dialogue sample in the article. The two of them stand on a rooftop looking to invade a party of some sort.

ELEKTRA: I know it’s harsh, but the people in there are a drop in the ocean. It’s the wrong play.
DAREDEVIL: It’s the only play. You stay here. I’ve got work to do.

BOOM! Daredevil will always get his hands dirty, no matter what. If lives are at stake, the risk is worth it. For Elektra, it’s about the bigger plays. Loosing a few lives here and there in the name of getting to the big guy and keeping yourself safe is an acceptable loss.

Finally, the article concludes by confirming that things will heat up this season between Murdock and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). It’s been suspected by all of us comic book dorks that this would be the case, but seeing it in writing is always nice. But, it adds to this that it’s entirely possible that Jessica Jones “might even show up on Daredevil this season, too.”
