If you are a fan of WEBTOON, then there is a rather large chance that you have at least heard (if not are entirely obsessed) of Rachel Symthe‘s Lore Olympus. It is a modern-day retelling of The Taking of Persephone from Greek Mythology. Smythe released the series on WEBTOON back in 2018 and quickly took the world by storm, becoming one of the top read series on the platform. And recently, Smythe partnered with Del Rey Books to bring the comic to print and with the Jim Henson Company, which is working on an animated series.

If you’ve been living under a rock, let me give you a brief breakdown of Lore Olympus. The series gives us a peek into what the gods do after dark. The friendship, the lies, the gossip, wild parties and of course, the forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all. They’ve got their own problems which make for an exciting read. Plus, the series features Smythe’s stylish art and takes the original story to a whole new level.

Lore Olympus‘ first graphic novel recently hit number one on the New York Times Bestseller List. Smythe’s series joins a long list of popular Webtoons to branch out from the platform into other mediums. Ken Kim, CEO of WEBTOON Entertainment, shared, “Rachel’s incredible work and achievement show what’s possible when a new, diverse generation of creators can reach a global audience on WEBTOON.” Kim also congratulated Smythe on reaching this beautiful milestone.

The first volume of Lore Olympus covers chapters 1-25 of the series, along with some additional content only found within the novel. It serves as a great introduction to not only the series but to WEBTOONs for comic fans who have not found themselves on the app yet. You can pick it up online or at your local bookstore now! The second volume will release on July 5, 2022. Have you checked the series out? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
