The Lord of the Rings may be getting a TV adaption. According to Variety, the online shopping giant Amazon and Warner Bros are in talks to team up and make the epic fantasy story into a series. The article also says that the Tolkien Estate have been working with WB to find a home for the series and it may have landed with Amazon.

While I could talk about Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos is in negotiations himself to get the series to his network. And how WB and the Tolkien Estate have seemingly made amends after the latter took the entertainment company to court. What I really want to talk about is what a TV series could look like for the epic books that essentially designed the fantasy genre. And to do this, I have to admit that I’m split on it.

For one, I thoroughly enjoyed the film trilogy brought to us by Peter Jackson. So the fact that they’re already trying to remake it upsets me a bit. Granted the last film came out over a decade ago, but it still feels far too soon. And frankly, Middle Earth is a wonderful place to be in and I miss it greatly. But, I also feel that the films did cut a lot out and the story could very much benefit from long form television. A chance for Tom Bombadil mayhaps? But it’s important to note that this is in very early talks, so this may never see the light of day. But we know a TV series could be on the way. Is Amazon a good place for such a series? I don’t know. But we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more news.

What do you think? Are you upset about a Lord of the Rings series or are you excited? Do you think it will work on Amazon? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Tolkien news! Lord of the Rings TV series has no release date.
