Liv Tyler is returning to Marvel. As revealed in The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will reprise her role as Betty Ross in Captain America: New World Order, known colloquially as Captain America 4. She will star opposite Anthony Mackie, who will take on the mantle of Captain America in his silver screen debut after Chris Evans put down the shield in Avengers: Endgame.
Tyler originally played Ross, the scientist daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (played by the late William Hurt), in the 2008 feature The Incredible Hulk. Edward Norton portrayed the titular angry green guy before Mark Ruffalo took over the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tyler’s costar Tim Roth, who played Emil Blonsky/Abomination, made his official MCU debut in last year’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law opposite Tatiana Maslany as the sharply intelligent, superpowered lawyer, Jen Walters.

In 2021, Mackie starred as Sam Wilson in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier alongside Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. The Marvel miniseries saw Sam and Bucky taking on the Flag-Smashers and John Walker/U.S. Agent while Sam transitioned from Falcon to Captain America. It’s unclear if Stan will reunite with Mackie for Captain America: New World Order.
Besides Mackie and Tyler, the MCU tentpole also stars Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/The Leader, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, MCU newcomer Shira Haas as Sabra and Carl Lumbly, who reprises his role from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Isaiah Bradley.
Julius Onah is at the helm of Captain America: New World Order, directing from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.

Liv Tyler is most known for portraying Arwen in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Her other credits include 1998’s Armageddon, Ad Astra opposite Brad Pitt, Hulu’s Harlots as Lady Isabella Fitzwilliam, the Gunpowder miniseries with Kit Harington and the 1995 cult classic Empire Records. She also recently recurred on 9-1-1: Lone Star as Michelle Blake.
I’m excited about Liv Tyler returning to the MCU. I love that Marvel recognizes the characters from The Incredible Hulk as canon in this expansive, ever-growing cinematic universe. Bring it on.
