While daydreaming about pizza, you may imagine melty cheese, crispy crust, sizzling pepperoni, and succulent sausage. Olives, mushrooms, and onions may even grace your perfect pizza. However, if you are a mutated, anthropomorphic turtle who resides in the sewers, your pizza preferences may be a wild ride! Cowabunga, dude!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ordered a total of 24 certified turtlefied pizzas in the original 1987 TV series. In the TMNT universe, the Turtles almost exclusively eat pizza, so it’s no wonder they love to experiment. Knowing this weakness, many of Shredder’s nefarious plans to destroy the Turtles involve pizza traps. In fact, co-creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird often ate pizza for lunch while working on the original comics.

The first pizza ordered by the Turtles was a granola and licorice pizza in episode 19 (“Beneath These Streets”). The pizza topping choices only got more bizarre and disturbing from there. Take the butterscotch, onion, and anchovy pizza in episode 51 (“Case of the Hot Kimono”), for example. Or perhaps the peanut butter and salami pizza with double yogurt topping in episode 86 (“Funny, They Shrunk Michelangelo”) is more your speed.
