Hulu is stepping into the sci-fi world with a new drama about the first human mission to Mars. The series, called The First, is written by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon and it’s just added LisaGay Hamilton to its cast.
Hamilton will join Sean Penn and Natascha McElhone in the near-future sci-fi series. According to Deadline, the show will focus on “exploring the challenges of taking the first steps toward interplanetary colonization.” It will represent points of view from astronauts in the Martian mission, as well as families and crew members on Earth. Fans of The Expanse might find this exciting, as it’s a similar concept. With people like Penn, Willimon and Hamilton involved, this new show seems to have some pretty exciting potential.

Hamilton is making a habit of appearing in space dramas, it seems. She recently filmed the space thriller, Ad Astra with Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones. She is said to be playing an “astronaut who is second in command and always puts the mission first” in The First.
The First will premiere on Hulu and on Channel 4 in the UK sometime in 2018.
