Injustice 2 has been on the minds of fans since it’s announcement on June 8th, 2016 and now we finally have a good look at the story. We see the heroes and villains 5 years after the events of the first game and a new threat has emerged. Old enemies become new allies in a trailer that dropped today and it reveals some more we have to look forward to!

The trailer briefly covers the results of the finale from the first game. Superman is now imprisoned for his crimes as the leader of his own regime. Batman continually monitors humanity, even letting particular allies get away with crimes. Supergirl has landed on Earth, joining the lineup as a major character in the story. She was sent to protect her cousin and intends to do so. Wonder Woman has come out of hiding, seeking to get revenge on Batman for locking up Superman. But who sides with who now that the new enemy, Brainiac, has come to destroy Earth?

Five years after the defeat of the High Councilor, Batman and his insurgency attempt to piece society back together while struggling against the remnants of Superman’s regime who seek to restore his rule. In addition, a shady new group, known as “The Society”, emerges and threatens chaos around the world. With several of his allies either victims of, or collaborators with, Superman’s failed regime, Batman is forced to form a new team of superheroes to combat an invading Brainiac, who puts Earth’s entire existence at risk.

The trailer also gives us a look at new characters who are joining the series for the first time. Poison Ivy has come out to play. Damian Wayne as Robin has become a player, though he was in a skin change for Nightwing in the original game. Brainiac of course will be the big bad, however, those who stayed till the end of the trailer got a look at the biggest bad. That’s right, Darkseid is joining the game! I doubt his Omega beams will give any room for dodging.

Previously announced new characters include Blue Beetle, Gorilla Grodd, Atrocitus and Deadshot. But! With pre-orders announced, there are new alternates offered meaning a few more characters. Power Girl will be an alternate skin for Supergirl. Reverse Flash will be an alternate skin for Flash again. And it looks like Green Lantern will have John Stewart as an alternate once more. The studio is boasting to have the most DC character lineup in a fighting game, which will be interesting as the original game had 45 playable characters!

What do you think of the new trailer? Let us know and be sure to check out Injustice 2 when it hits shelves on May 16th, 2017.
