Every hero has a beginning.

Buzz Lightyear fans, we’ve finally got an official trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear, starring Chris Evans as the voice of the titular Space Ranger. It’s a glorious feat of stunning visuals and epic celestial action, complemented by David Bowie‘s “Starman.”

Here’s a synopsis for Lightyear per Pixar Animation Studios

Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure and the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voice of Chris Evans)—the hero who inspired the toy. The film reveals how a young test pilot became the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today. Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman.

In the trailer, we see Captain Buzz and his space team trapped on a strange planet, and they’re working hard to get home. Thus, Buzz embarks on his first test flight for a rescue mission, but things take a turn for the topsy-turvy when he winds up on another new world.

Armed only with Socks, a “personal companion robot” that looks like a cat, Buzz must find a way off of a planet chock full of aliens and intimidating robots.

Besides getting a glimpse of Buzz’s Space Ranger team, the trailer also showcases a few action sequences featuring none other than Emperor Zurg, Buzz’s archnemesis.

I’m an avid fan of anything Pixar, and I’d watch Chris Evans read the back of a cereal box. Evans perfectly captures the essence of Buzz with his voice. I can’t wait to see how the flick fills in the blanks of our favorite Space Ranger’s origin story.

Lightyear blasts into theaters on Friday, June 17. Watch the trailer below!
