How’re ya now? Good, ‘n you? Letterkenny is here with its series finale, Season 12 Episode 6, “Over and Out.” I can’t believe we’ve reached this moment. This outing is such a terrific last hurrah. It perfectly epitomizes this series’ spirit while offering fans plenty of fun callbacks. The callbacks, particularly the scene with the Hicks and Hockey Players, made me so giddy. I love that, at the end of the day, the residents of Letterkenny are happy with where they’re at. Sometimes, where you are is where you need to be. There’s nothing wrong with being home.

“Over and Out” is a damn near perfect series finale. I love the idea of Letterkenny remaining this pocket of small-town, imperfect goodness, unchanged by time. There’s an inexplicable comfort in that, as a viewer, knowing our favorite pals are still together at the end.

Pitter-patter, let’s get at’er … let’s dive into “Over and Out.”

The Stork Dilemma

We begin with the last cold open ever (tear), featuring Wayne (Jared Keeso), Daryl (Nathan Dales) and Squirrely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson). They discuss how the local newspaper removed “The Stork Report” column, which kept the town abreast of who was expecting. Dary believes this is a good thing — he doesn’t need to know who’s having a baby. The fellas get on the topic of how a stork prepares to deliver a baby. Wayne surmises a falconer would teach a stork how to carry the infant. Wayne believes a falconer could communicate and train any bird, not just falcons and hawks.

As usual, the trio gets carried away with the discussion. At one point, Squirrely asks Wayne if he’s confusing storks for pelicans. Finally, by the cold open’s end, Wayne admits that, yes, he was mixing up the two birds. Such is life.

The Night Before…

We flashback to the previous night, wherein the gang saved Daryl from the Degens. Stewart (Tyler Johnston) and Roald (Evan Stern) devise a plan to distract the Degens. They set off fireworks. While Jivin’ Pete (Ian Ronningen), Mick (Morgan Bedard) and the others stare in awe at the sparkling display, Wayne, Tyson (Jay Bertin), McMurray (Dan Petronijevic), Reilly (Dylan Playfair), Jonesy (Andrew Herr), Slash (Dylan Cook) and Axe (Bradley Trudeau) run toward them. The element of surprise! Wayne punches the lights out of Mick in a perfect stroke of revenge.

Afterward, Wayne, Squirrely Dan and the others smoke darts while sitting in front of the Degens’ “Manchin.” They decide this won’t be their final scrap with Degens. As long as there are Degens, the gang will be here to keep ’em in line. This is their cross to bear.

Meanwhile, we see a flashback of STRT boasting his sparkly gold suit and matching top hat. It’s the same scene from Season 1 Episode 5, “Rave,” when Katy (Michelle Mylett) was the only one who attended Stewart’s rave. Thankfully, it’s a dream. STRT wakes up in his basement to a plate of schneef. The best part of waking up…

Déjà Vu

Next, the Hockey Players pull into the farmhouse driveway. They encounter Wayne and Daryl, who are sitting in front of the produce stand with Puppers in their hands. Reilly and Jonesy acknowledge that Hicks and Hockey Players are notorious for not getting along. However, they’ve supported each other over the years. The boys thank Wayne and Daryl for being there for them. After a moment of silence, the Hicks tear into the Hockey Players just like they did in the pilot episode. It’s pitch-perfect. The insults are next-level. Then, Katy calls her boys into the house because she made them food. “This isn’t over!” Reilly and Jonesy declare in unison. *Chef’s kiss*

Later, STRT and Roald brainstorm ideas. What should they do now that the after-hours club is dead in the water? Roald broaches the subject of reviving Fartbook. Glen (Jacob Tierney) is on Team Revive Fartbook. STRT reminds him that he initially stole the site from them. Why would they join forces? The trio unleashes an avalanche of flatulent-themed social media, from Spotifart to YouToot and StinkedIn. As far as I’m concerned, every platform should change its name to something fart-related because social media is full of human-shaped farts.

STRT believes their efforts to create a social media platform were for naught (“Fartbook” is the third episode of Season 1). STRT suggests they go back even further than Fartbook…

Rave in the Ag Hall

STRT and Roald propose the idea of hosting another rave in the Ag Hall to the Hicks. They’re fine with it. As the convo continues, the Skids are shocked to discover that our fave Hicks aren’t fans of country. Finally, the Skids ask the 100-dollar question: Will the Hicks attend their rave? Wayne, Katy, Dary and Squirrely D reject them. When the Skids return to the basement, they attempt to approach this from a different avenue. Aly (Sasha Striga) and Bianca (Nadine Bhabha) suggest they ask folks about their music tastes. There are Hicks, Hockey Players and Skids in Letterkenny. What kind of music do they all like?

What transpires next is a montage featuring the Skids rattling off obscure musical genres and subgenres to various residents. They start with Tanis (Kaniehtiio Horn), Shania (Ellyn Jade), Slash and Axe. The quartet gives a resounding “no” to all the genre suggestions. McMurray and Tyson do the same. Gail (Lisa Codrington), Bonnie McMurray (Kamilla Kowal), Alex (Jeff McEnery) and Coach (Mark Forward) are also “nos.”

Upon returning to the basement, Bianca and Sasha offer another suggestion: Just have something available for everyone from the three main groups. STRT plans to spread the word by putting the rave on his f*cking Facebook, and Glen will also put it on his f*cking Facebook. I love the callback to this Season 1 line. Then, the Skids throw tons of flyers for the rave on the Natives, McMurray/Tyson, the MoD3an’s team and the Hicks. They’re serious about spreading the word.

Prepping for the Rave

Then, Roald trains the Degen girls to act sportily to appeal to the Hockey Players. Stewart and Lily (Ella Cannon) showcase framed photos of treasured town locations on a mock display of a produce stand. He and Roald also train Connor (Patrick McNeil) and Darien (Daniel VanZandwyk) in the ways of Hockey Players and Hicks, including dressing them as such. The fellas bring in bales of hay and a massive Canada Goose (a nice nod to a fantastic episode — Season 4 Episode 2, “A Fuss at the Golf Course”).

Later, STRT prepares for the rave in the bathroom as he did in that Season 1 episode. He boasts the same sparkly gold jacket and top hat. The Skids make their way to the stage. Unfortunately, the Ag Hall is empty. All four of them start sobbing, and it’s hilarious—the sounds they make. Thankfully, Wayne knocks on a window, revealing the front door is locked.

Everyone’s Movin’ and Groovin’

Once they unlock it, everyone and their mom make their way to the dance floor. Mrs. McMurray (Melanie Scrofano) finally returns, where she sways with her husband. Gailer and Alex dance together. Katy boogies with her Hockey Player boys. Bonnie McMurray dances with Daryl (I always thought they were cute together). Tanis dances with Squirrely Dan.

Glen gets his groove on with Dax (Gregory Waters). Sasha dances with Axe. Slash boogies with Shania. Even Mary-Anne (Jess Salgueiro) and Betty-Anne (Kelly McCormack) return to dance with Coach. But that’s not all! We see Ron (James Daly) get it on with Bianca. Tyson grooves it up with Anik (Kim Cloutier).

Okay, I really just wanted to see how many characters I could spot in this scene.

Everyone’s dancing, and it’s euphoric. Wayne glances at the framed photos on the produce stand. We see shots of the Skids’ basement, the real produce stand, the red barn, the farmhouse kitchen, etc. Stewart and Roald gather the group together for a speech. He introduces Jimmy Dickskin, erm, Dickens (Alex McCooeye), to sing a remixed version of his song, “Sun Darts.”

Sun Darts and Broken Hearts

While the dancing continues to Dickens’ country-fied vocals and his bumpin’, boot-scootin’ track, Wayne reunites with Lily at the produce stand display. She smiles as they stand beside each other. Hmm. I wonder if something will develop there.

Then, we transition from the Ag Hall to empty shots of various Letterkenny locations — MoD3an’s, the red barn, the Skids’ basement, the hockey arena, the convenience store, the farmhouse, the church, and, finally, the produce stand. The frame fades to black with the text “For Gus” scrawled across the screen. Okay, I was doing well until I saw that. My guess is this episode is dedicated to Keeso’s real-life dog, Gus, who presumably passed away.

Oof. Right in the heart.

Thank you, Letterkenny, for the years of gut-busting laughs, hilarious one-liners, clever wordplay that would make Amy Sherman-Palladino and Aaron Sorkin jealous and wonderfully nuanced, lovable characters. This is easily one of my favorite comedies of all time. As far as I’m concerned, it’s infinitely rewatchable. Consider this one in my annual rewatch rotation.

I’m glad we’ll still get new Shoresy content and future Keeso productions (hopefully, those include some in the world of Letterkenny). Whatever is on the horizon, I’m here for it.

Okay, I’m gonna take about 20 percent off that now. Over and out.
