How’re ya now? Good, ‘n you? Letterkenny Season 12 Episode 3, “I’m a Degen,” changes the game for a handful of our characters. Daryl finally admits he’s one of the Degens as he grows closer to Harley. Bad gas travels fast in a small town, so Letterkenny’s finest debate on the traits of a stereotypical Degen. Katy contemplates a life change as she continues to think about her revelatory Mexico trip (and meets a new friend), while Rosie tells Wayne she wants him to consider moving to Vancouver Island with her.
It’s understandable that we’re now planting the endgame seeds for these characters, considering the series has only three episodes left. Wayne could move to VI, while Katy might emigrate to Mexico. The Skids’ new club could become a permanent business for them. Daryl is a Degen now, so there’s that. Squirrely Dan even admitted earlier that he understands the appeal of the Mennonite life. If he’s getting serious about Lovina Dyck…
“I’m a Degen” is another solid outing. I love the ample character development and plot movement as Daryl severs ties with the Hicks. That’ll surely blow up in his face. It’s all funny, charming and chock full of delicious wordplay and zingers.
Pitter-patter … let’s dive into “I’m a Degen.”

Whatever Floats Your Boat
We begin with a cold open featuring Wayne (Jared Keeso), Katy (Michelle Mylett) and Squirrely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson). Wayne admits that he’s not a fan of boats. There’s always one dick (not a Dyck) on a boat. He explains to Katy and Squirrely D what he means by this. Once, he took to the waters himself, riding a boat solo. He went without a tarp (gotta let that farmer’s tan breathe) and rolled his jeans like Huckleberry Finn.
Needless to say, it didn’t end well. A few jerks passing him had some choice remarks for him. We don’t need to repeat them here. Katy admits she understands now why Wayne despises boating. Side note: It’s nice to see Dan wearing the hat Lovina gave him.
A Big Reveal
Later, Squirrely reunites with Daryl (Nathan Dales), who plops beside the former in front of the produce stand. Squirrely D informs him that Wayne is chorin’ while Katy is preparing for a photoshoot on the farm. Why? Katy and Wayne enter, explaining they own the oldest farm in Letterkenny, perhaps the whole county. Katy confronts Dary, revealing she knows he’s been hanging out with Degens. It was only a matter of time. Dary corrects her. He states that Harley and Mick aren’t Degens but are friends with Degens. Daryl claims they treat him better. They don’t make fun of him like the Hicks do. Katy storms off, with Wayne not far behind her. Uh-oh. The rift is forming.

Meanwhile, in MoD3an’s, ole Gailer (Lisa Codrington), Reilly (Dylan Playfair) and Jonesy (Andrew Herr) argue about the placement of one’s six o’clock, nine o’clock, etc. The Hockey Players are ogling at the Degen gals standing off-camera. Harley (Amalia Williamson) appears behind them. Despite her Degen status, Reilly and Jonesy believe she’s a bona fide sniper. Daryl and Mick (Morgan Bedard) also appear, asking the women if they’re ready to depart.
After that interaction, Tanis (Kaniehtiio Horn) and Shania (Ellyn Jade) remark on the Hockey Players’ lusting after the Degen ladies. Much of this episode consists of our characters rattling off characteristics of Degen behavior and their abhorrent actions, most of which involve animals. Tanis and Shania remind our boys that a Degen is a Degen. A tiger can’t change its stripes. On another note, according to Gailer, 69-ing is dangerous. She almost killed a man once during it.
Bonding Over Mexico
Then, the photographer, Lily (Ella Cannon), arrives on the farm to photograph Katy. They discuss their shared interests, including their trips to Mexico, their tans, margaritas and hair lightly kissed by the sun. Lily asks Katy if she’s ever considered moving to Mexico. Hmm. Meanwhile, Stewart (Tyler Johnston) and Roald (Evan Stern) boast silky suits while engaging in an online debate with a right-wing dude. I love how STRT and Roald’s rebuttals are riddled with ridiculously fun alliteration. However, despite this, STRT and Roald emerge from the debate feeling hollow. They’ve done everything there is to do while on snooters.

Afterward, Connor (Patrick McNeil) and Darien (Daniel Vanzandwyk) see to Stewart and Roald’s needs. STRT reveals they need a revelation. They must revitalize their love for rips. That’s when it hits him — they should start an after-hours club solely for snooters. It’ll be the hottest establishment in all of Letterkenny. Roald passes out in excitement, as one does. I love the wordplay and physicality in the Skids scenes.
Squint Eastwood and Rosie and the Pussycats
Next, Wayne video chats with Rosie (Clark Backo), who’s on Vancouver Island. She heard about Daryl hanging with the Degens. Rosie floats the idea of her and Wayne moving to Vancouver Island. Wayne doesn’t say much about it. The seeds are planted regarding Wayne’s potential next moves. However, I can’t picture him living elsewhere.
Later, Daryl and Mick chill with the gals while at The Lion’s Dan (Den), formerly known as the “Palis.” The women ask the men to describe themselves. When it’s Dary’s turn, Mick takes the wheel, offering his own descriptors for his new pal. Harley orders the girls to move aside so she can cuddle with her sweetie. Then, Jivin’ Pete (Ian Ronningen) orders Daryl to admit he’s a Degen. He’s not allowed to be here otherwise. After getting peer pressure on all sides, Dary reluctantly confesses he’s a Degen while Pete records his confession. So, it’s official, and now all of Letterkenny will know.
I love how all the Degens have their own backward versions of popular sayings. You can eat your cake and have it too, you know. The squeaky wheel gets the worm! Don’t kick spilled milk!

Going Out on the Town
Then, Lily shows Katy the killer pics they took during the photoshoot. Katy made them margaritas, and Lily’s starting to feel the effects. She admits she’s too intoxicated to drive. That’s when Katy decides to take Lily out that night. Fast forward to that evening, when we see Wayne hiding in the bushes. He’s watching Daryl party with Harley and the Degens.
Elsewhere, STRT and Roald pop by MoD3an’s with a proposition for Gail. What if they turn MoD3an’s into their after-hours snooters club? Gail agrees to this if and only if they pay their bar tab. Unfortunately, it’s now over 200 dollars, and who has that kind of money? Wayne stands outside the bar while smoking a dart. Rosie video calls him. She admits she’s usually excited to return to Letterkenny, but she’s less so this time. She doesn’t want to leave Vancouver Island. Uh-oh. Inside, the power goes out while Gail and Katy chat about life. We see the power outage is courtesy of the Skids.
Next, STRT and Roald announce their exclusive club to the MoD3an’s patrons. What’s on the menu? BroDude, water and rips snooters. Oh, and sex (sex, sexuality, sexual orientation). Outside, Lily meets Wayne and flirts with him. Katy introduces her big bro to her new pal. Katy reveals they’re heading to the Skids’ after-hours club. Wayne tags along. Then, we see the Skids’ basement has been transformed into a club, with Stewart and Roald looking cool as f*ck.
