DISCLAIMER: This recap of the Letterkenny penultimate episode “Influenzas” contains spoilers. Figure it out, bud, and proceed at your peril.
How’re ya now? Good, ‘n you? We’re close to the finish line, Letterkenny lovers. “Influenzas” pokes fun at influencer culture and our societal obsession with looking perfect on social media. I love how the photographers sound like a white girl’s Pinterest board. It’s cringey and hilarious at the same time. Meanwhile, the B plot involves Mary-Anne, Lucy-Anne and Coach, with a few hockey legends as special guest stars.
Ready to delve into “Influenzas”? Let’s get to it.

We begin with a cold open featuring Wayne (Jared Keeso), Daryl (Nathan Dales), Squirrely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson), Bonnie McMurray (Kamilla Kowal) and Alexander (Jeff McEnery). Bonnie McMurray laments about finding a dearth of good guys on dating apps (they’re all f*ck boys). Squirrely D finally acknowledges that he adds an “s” to the ends of his words, and Dary celebrates winning 10 dollars. Everyone pokes fun at Daryl for relishing his monetary victory, while Alexander takes the teasing further. “Highfalutin duck fart” might be my new favorite insult.

Later, Wayne, Squirrely Dan, Dary and Katy (Michelle Mylett) are sitting around the kitchen table when Jivin’ Pete (Ian Ronningen) barges inside. Sure, he’s usually a “meet at the end of the driveway” kind of fella, especially as a degen, but JP wants to apologize for his behavior toward Wayne and Katy. He’s also looking for work. JP hopes to turn his life around. Wayne hesitates to oblige, but when a friend asks for help, you help him. Wayne tells him that if any openings arise, he’ll call.
Meanwhile, Katy spots a photographer, Dove (Kayla Lorette), on the property. She’s snapping photos of an engaged couple. Dove asks if she can take some pictures of her clients in the barn, but only if they have dusty stuff, rusty stuff and cobweb-y corners. She’ll even pay Katy for the trouble. Our girl is in the market for a pair of Doc Martens…

Next, we see Mary-Anne (Jess Salgueiro) and Lucy-Anne (Elise Bauman) hyping each other up now that they’re coaching girls’ hockey. They lament the loss of Betty-Anne as their co-pilot, but they look forward to this new partnership. Suddenly, hockey pros Tessa Bonhomme and Sami Jo Small come into view with their cousins — Donatella, Raphaela, Leonarda and Michelangela. They’re the ninja turtles of hockey! These living legends want Mary-Anne and Betty-Anne to coach them.
In addition, Tessa and Sami Jo will help our new coaches flourish. How? By bringing a seasoned local pro into the fold. We see none other than Coach (Mark Forward) enter the space. Get ready to kick some trash cans. Meanwhile, Katy buys McMurray (Daniel Petronijevic) and Mrs. McMurray (Melanie Scrofano) a round of Puppers after scoring some cash from the photographer. She fills the McMurrays in on her new business venture. Dove plans to return to Letterkenny to shoot exclusively in Wayne’s and Katy’s barn. After she departs, the McMurrays scheme to steal Katy’s idea. But first: another c*ck-sucking gin and tonic.
Then, the boys watch another photographer, Beth (Kara Duncan), conduct a photo shoot with an engaged couple. Katy tells the fellas about her venture (my girl’s got keen business acumen). Those Docs are incoming! Unfortunately, the McMurrays poached her business, stealing Dove from under Katy’s nose.

Meanwhile, Coach imparts sage hockey wisdom upon an irritated Mary-Anne and Lucy-Anne. His advice? Bench ’em all. Gail (Lisa Codrington) tells the McMurrays about the “influenzas” coming into town to take pics. Yes, in case you’re wondering, she means “influencers.” McMurray and Mrs. McMurray find a table of influencers in MoD3an’s and persuade them to use their barn full of dusty stuff, rusty stuff and cobweb-y corners for their photos. They don’t have puppies for pictures, but their goats are just as photogenic.

Later, the hicks visit Noah (Jonathan Torrens) and Anita Dyck (Sarah Wayne Callies). We see some influencers posing for pics behind our fave innuendo-spewing couple while they hoe. After talking about sausages and bangers in the mouth, the fellas learn about the Dyck’s enterprising efforts. They take the intel back to Katy, who believes she can’t compete against Mennonites. And now Jimmy Dickskin’s in the game, too.
What transpires next is a montage featuring our three competitors, Katy, Jimmy Dickens (Alex McCooeye) and the McMurrays, as they compete to reel in the most influencers. Katy and the McMurrays resort to signage advertising complimentary beverages with the use of their properties. The McMurrays even make putting up signage sexually charged. Wayne urges Katy to enlist the aid of Jivin’ Pete, who enthusiastically helps Katy spruce up the property for prospective influencers. Unfortunately, Dove receives a call saying that Donegal is now the hip place to take photos. Bye-bye, Letterkenny!

Next, we see Mary-Anne and Lucy-Anne at a game with their girls. Coach encourages them to bench everyone right off the bat. The key is to make the girls angry. Hockey is anger! I love seeing some of Coach’s fiery temperament from when he coached the Letterkenny Irish. My favorite line: Dame Judi BENCH! Mark Forward is so damn funny.
However, Tessa Bonhomme and Sami Jo Small drop a plot twist on the group — Coach isn’t meant to actually coach them. It was all a test, and Mary-Anne and Lucy-Anne passed by doing the opposite of what Coach advised. Now, the real pros will step in. Meanwhile, Noah chats it up with Gailer, the McMurrays and Katy at MoD3an’s. He reveals that while the influencers have departed the town, a porn film crew asked him if they could film on their property. Noah wanted to ensure the patrons of MoD3an’s were aware of the unsavory folk coming into town. Naturally, our former business owners want in on this one.
“Influenzas” isn’t the show’s strongest episode; it probably won’t feature in any top 10 lists. However, it’s a fun one, especially with the addition of the Dycks, McMurrays and Coach’s old-school coaching style making a comeback. Plus, callbacks like the Cassie/Tassie name mixup are a delight. We also get a bit of narrative continuity with the hicks acknowledging events from previous episodes in the season, which I appreciate.
Pitter-patter — there’s still more Letterkenny to watch, so let’s get at’er!
