DISCLAIMER: This recap of the Letterkenny episode “Prostate” has spoilers. Proceed at your peril.
That’s a Texas-sized 10-4, good buddy! Letterkenny reaches its back half of the season with “Prostate,” and it’s a mighty simple episodic premise. The men get head-to-toe physicals, including the finger up the internal channel. It’s interesting how little the characters on this show understand the human body.
For example, Tanis doesn’t know whether she has a prostate, while the men scratch their heads regarding the function of a Pap smear. Daryl wonders whether a doctor checking his prostate will turn him gay. While there’s no homophobia behind it, it’s a curious thing to believe.
But perhaps this episode showcases everyone’s scant comprehension of the human body and how little schools teach us. It’s full of fun wordplay and metaphors, with the triumphant return of Jacob Tierney as Glen, a.k.a. my fave nurse.
Ready to delve into “Prostate”? Let’s get to it.

We cold open with Wayne (Jared Keeso) gettin’ a bit frisky after a few too many Puppers. He chats with Katy (Michelle Mylett), Squirrely Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) and Daryl (Nathan Dales) about a bar in Moncton, New Brunswick. The conversation steers toward tipping your servers, giving them “loonies.” (Canadian one-dollar coin) I love the running gag wherein Wayne misinterprets his friends’ words and tries to start a scrap.
Later, Katy informs Wayne about the local doctor’s retirement. She reveals she scheduled Wayne for an appointment with the new doc so that he can start a file. But Wayne’s got chorin’ to do, and who has time for a doctor’s appointment when there are chores to do?

Wayne shows up early for his appointment to find Glen (Tierney) working behind the front desk as a receptionist/secretary/nurse. He’s donning an old-school nurse’s costume because, of course, he would.
Wayne sits beside Coach (Mark Forward), who looks like he lost some weight. Coach regularly occupies the local gym now — you could call him a gym rat. And if you don’t, well, that’s f**king embarrassing.
Tyson (Jay Bertin) has hemorrhoids, hence why he’s at the doctor’s office. While Tyson’s receiving a checkup from the doctor, he learns a head-to-toe physical accompanies every new file, including a prostate exam. Glen wants to offer a finger or two for the doc to use. What a selfless saint!
Tyson tells Wayne and Coach about the free physical. The boys decide to hightail it out of there.
Later, Dary reveals his doctor’s office experience to Wayne. I love that neither of them blatantly refers to it as a “prostate exam;” instead, they employ colorful metaphors and figurative language. Dary muses whether getting a finger in the prostate “breaks your heterosexuality.” Oh, Daryl. You sweet, simple-minded fool. According to him, he never went through with the exam.
Meanwhile, Katy chastises Wayne for skipping out on his appointment. Wayne and Dary revert to children here. The sheer power Katy exudes! She demands they return to the doctor’s office before the end of the day.
Daryl and Wayne take their places in the waiting room, wherein Glen still works behind the desk. They sit beside Coach and Tyson, who return for their prostate exams. The men discuss what it means to have a man stick his finger up your Lincoln Tunnel.
Tanis (Kaniehtiio Horn) and Shania (Ellyn Jade) appear, asking the boys why they’re at the doctor’s office. They scold the men for being babies, and Tanis proceeds to use Dary as an experiment to showcase the horrors of receiving a Pap smear. Been there; done that.

This scene might be the highlight of the episode. Tanis is easily my favorite supporting character on Letterkenny, and Horn pulls out all the comedic stops with her “practice” Pap smear. Glen eagerly volunteers to be her nurse.
Tanis and Shania leave after giving the boys some food for thought regarding prostate exams. Hey, it’s better than a Pap. A montage commences featuring Wayne, Coach, Dary and Tyson dropping trow for their examinations. The camera focuses on their facial expressions amid each exam, and it’s brilliant.
Later, the guys have beers with Tanis and Shania at MoD3an’s. They dispel myths about getting your prostate checked, such as Daryl’s ill-informed “it breaks your heterosexuality” thing. Daryl feels frisky after checking out Bonnie McMurray (Kamilla Kowal) and Anik (Kim Cloutier). Time to change out of the barn clothes!

I love the return of Coach, and Mark Forward consistently delivers hilarious performances. The idea of a gym-obsessed Coach aligns perfectly with the character. I hope we see more of him and Glen in the last two episodes of the season.
As glad as I am that Letterkenny‘s back, I feel something is missing. I think the pandemic might be to blame, not just for the shorter episode count but the lack of real action and traveling. They probably have strict protocols that limit their ability to shoot in different locations and expand the story beyond a handful of folks at a time.
Regardless, I’ll take what I can get.
Season 10 of Letterkenny is now streaming on Hulu.
