That’s right! The latest rumor going around Hollywood says that Leonardo DiCaprio could play Joker. Variety claims that sources say WB want to see DiCaprio in the role. Though they say it’s too early to tell, it’s a rumor that could have some merit.

The stand alone Joker film is being directed by Todd Phillips with rumored Martin Scorsese as executive producer. This is why this rumor has merit. Scorsese and Dicaprio have teamed up for many projects including The Departed, Shutter Island, and The Wolf of Wall Street. But that seems to be the only connection.

While Dicaprio hasn’t released anything since The Revenant, he has a bunch of productions in the works. And given his track record, he’s been trying for more award-baiting films. So a superhero/villain film doesn’t seem like something he would go for. However, you never know what could happen. Superhero films are really popular right now and with The Dark Knight it’s been proven that not all of them are popcorn flicks. This is all just a rumor, though. We’ll have to see how it plays out.
