The Tomb Raider trailer is finally here! Fans have been anticipating what the new Lara Croft film would be like and we got our first taste. After a “viewing party” of sorts on IGN, the world was able to see Alicia Vikander as Croft in action.
Her father has gone missing and the business he left behind wants Lara to follow in his footsteps to take over the company. Croft isn’t interested and instead discovers what her father was truly up to. His own adventures led him to the Devil’s Sea where evil organization “Trinity” is up to no good. In a pre-recorded video, he tells her she has to save the world. She tearfully promises.
From there it’s action scene after action scene. Lara jumping into the ocean as her boat sinks, using a bow and arrow to take out some baddies. She even uses the ice axe from the poster as a weapon. Score! One thing I noticed was that the trailer liked to show her falling in rushing water a lot. I don’t quite understand that bit, but it was a funny thing.

We also get hints at a continuation into the Lara we knew from the early 2000s. At the end of the trailer, we see her with a wad of cash handing it to some ammunition dealers. A Nick Frost cameo is an unexpected but highly welcome addition here! We see Lara rocking her braided high pony tail as she takes two guns in either hand, saying she’ll be taking two.
Overall the trailer looks promising, but doesn’t have me fully convinced. Granted it’s the first trailer so we won’t get everything and they want to show off their effects. There’s just something about it I can’t quite put my finger on. You’ll have to check it out below and see for yourself!

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished years earlier. Hoping to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance, Croft embarks on a perilous journey to his last-known destination — a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. The stakes couldn’t be higher as Lara must rely on her sharp mind, blind faith and stubborn spirit to venture into the unknown.
Tomb Raider is in theaters March 16th, 2018.
