Getting home from work at 1am has it’s perks – like being awake for the latest rocket launch from Space X.
Rocket, launches and space never become less exciting for me. One of my most profound moments was when I realized that I was laying in bed, watching this launch live on my iPad and following #Falcon9 tweets from people all over the world, I mean, it freaking blew my mind!
I was incredibly grateful for the reminder that I am in a very privileged position and that through this technology, that I so often take for granted, I was able to connect with people from all over to watch this mission that is history in the making.
Reusable rockets. That’s the goal of Falcon 9, named after The Millennium Falcon duh. The intention was to launch, then separate. Dragon is to continue on to The International Space Station with supplies and that is still successful and expected to reach The ISS in two days. Space X then attempted to land Falcon 9 on an autonomous spaceport drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean and it hit the mark, just hit it a little too hard.
Elon Musk tweeted:
Rocket made it to drone spaceport ship, but landed hard. Close, but no cigar this time. Bodes well for the future tho.

Why is this so important? Musk had this to say:
Reusability is the critical breakthrough required in rocketry to take us to the next level. SpaceX plans to have at least a dozen launches over the next 12 months with at least one of these launches proving the feasibility of reusable rockets.
There are no runways and no atmosphere on the Moon. Winged aircraft won’t work there. There’s no runway on Mars, so winged aircraft also aren’t great there. Rockets are the best option.
Thank goodness for the scientist and engineers and real life Iron Man, Elon Musk, who continues to pursue space exploration and develop the technology it takes to get us there and to go where no man has gone before…Can I say that???
Here is video of the launch via SkyNews
Also one of the coolest POV was from the inside of the fuel tank!
