Kurt Russell confirmed today that he is, indeed, in talks with James Gunn and the good people of Marvel to take on the role of Star-Lord’s father in the follow-up to 2014’s hit film, Guardians of the Galaxy. However, they may not be exactly the sorts of talks you’re expecting.

As Kurt Russell says, “I literally got a phone call two days ago about this.”

That’s it. That’s the extent of their talks — a phone call from James Gunn.

But it is so much better than that. As Russell than admitted, “I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don’t know anything about it…So, I didn’t realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now]. I’ve got nothing to offer here. So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do… it’s a little weird.”

So there you have it folks! Kurt Russell is indeed in talks by way of a phone call with James Gunn, but he is, at the very least, interested! He just has to watch the first Guardians of the Galaxy film and read the script and see if it’s anything he’s interested in.

Fingers crossed the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is as good as we’ve heard!
