Sure, we’ve got Superman in plenty of movies and we’ve seen him have his own TV series in Smallville, but we’ve not yet to see a series about the El family of Krypton — until now.

We’ve seen a trailer for the series that will follow Kal-El’s grandfather before the destruction of their planet, Krypton, as he uncovers the various forces leading to the planet’s demise. The series, simply titled Krypton, which will premiere sometime in 2018 on Syfy, had a panel at San Diego Comic Con where they announced that the character of Adam Strange would be joining their cast. Well, true to their word, today the series announced that actor Shaun Sipos would take on the role of the “world-weary human, who finds himself stranded on Krypton as the unlikely mentor to Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather.”

The character of Adam Strange in the comics is absolutely a product of the retro-futurism of the 50’s, having premiered in Showcase #17 in 1958. He is originally an archaeologist who finds himself suddenly transported to the planet Rann through something called a “Zeta-Beam.” He is gifted Rann technology to help in the protection of their planet, including an assortment of ray guns and a jetpack allowing him to travel the stars with his beloved Rann girlfriend, Allana.

That is, Strange is a space age hero, so having him, as a human, ending up stranded on Krypton makes total sense.

We first saw this story on Deadline.
