A month ago, a teaser leaked across the internet for a barely secret Superman prequel television show starring Cameron Cuffe as Seg El, Kal El’s grandfather. It was assumed the video was the actual teaser trailer since it had backstory and intrigue woven throughout. But once it was pulled, there was silence until last week when Syfy announced that Krypton was officially picked up for a 2018 premiere. The leaked video may have been an internal pitch to determine the fate of the show. If this is the case, was it leaked intentionally, much the same way the Deadpool test footage was, to gauge the interests of the Kryptonian fanbase? Probably not, but it is fun to think that the uproar the one and a half minute video created helped get it on the list of new shows premiering under the new Syfy reboot. Until the first officially released trailer arrives, we can only speculate.
Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
