File this under the fantastic news category, at Paris Games Week, Square Enix and Disney announced Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix coming to PlayStation 4.   The compilation will include six Kingdom Hearts adventures on one disc, letting fans and new players alike familiarize themselves with the world before diving into Kingdom Hearts 3.

This new ReMix edition will contain the same games from the PlayStation 3 releases of both 1.5 ReMix and 2.5 ReMix.  It will not contain anything from the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.  Which, of course, makes sense considering 2.8 doesn’t release until January.

I know there are people out there experiencing multiple purchase fatigue; purchasing multiple versions of the same title.  Be that new editions or updated remasters releasing on current gen consoles.  I’m solidly in the middle with this.  On the one hand, I hate dragging out my old systems whenever nostalgia hits, so I love the new releases.  It’s also fantastic when they release with true updated graphics and all previous bonus content. However, I hate throwing down money again and again for my favorite titles just because backwards compatibility may not be available.

All of that being said, the video game industry is growing and companies want to hook new players on old titles.  I get it, it makes sense.

The full list of titles included in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix:

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMix

  • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories
  • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD remastered cinematics)

KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.5 ReMIX

  • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMix will release on March 28, 2017.

As a bonus, Square Enix released the full opening movie for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue during the show.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue comes to the PlayStation 4 on January 24, 2017.
