Hallelujah, Killing Eve fans! The delectable treats just keep coming for lovers of BBC America’s critically acclaimed cat-and-mouse thriller from Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Last week brought forth a 15-second teaser showcasing heroine Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh). This time, it’s Villanelle’s (Jodie Comer) turn.
Now, in said clip, we see Villanelle brandishing a small blade while “Hallelujah” by George Frideric Handel accompanies her movements. Eve also makes an appearance, as the two sport crimson dresses while interlocking arms. Visions of Villanelle with the blade are spliced between her moments with Eve. Suddenly, the teaser’s imagery rapidly switches back and forth from Villanelle to Eve – undoubtedly to signify their bond. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, we see Villanelle pointing the blade at the camera with a look of malice on her face.
So, what does it all mean? If you read my piece from last week, I still wholeheartedly believe that the color red represents the incessant bloodshed associated with Killing Eve. Not to mention, Eve was shot by Villanelle in the Season 2 finale. We know that Eve is alive, but the status of her life with MI6 is still hanging in the balance. The crimson garbs with sheer tendrils interlocking Eve and Villanelle is obviously a nod to their ties that bind.
Regardless of their moral or career standing, there’s something inherent in Villanelle that draws Eve to her. This show is a reminder that good and evil coexist in tandem within us all. Villanelle’s turn at the end of the clip is another stark reminder that she’s still the villain, and despite her conflicting feelings for Eve she’ll always try to save her own skin. Villanelle will do what it takes to ensure her own well being.
In addition, the Killing Eve official Twitter account also shared a pair of new stills featuring the core four cast members. Comer and Oh are pictured alongside Fiona Shaw and Kim Bodnia, who portray Carolyn Martens and Konstantin, respectively.
So, without further ado, I present you with this week’s Killing Eve teaser. What do you think this clip symbolizes? How do you picture Season 3 playing out? Sound off in the comments below!
