Hello, horror fans! It is time for another edition of Horror With a Side of Cheese, and this one is gonna be grate. Before we go any further, here is a quick introduction for the newbies. I am on a mission to find the cheesiest horror movies ever filmed. Twice each month, on the first and third Fridays, I come here and talk about my latest find. The featured films can be from any subgenre, country and decade. No cheesy stone is left unturned.
I rate each entry from one to five cheese slices. Several factors determine the rating, such as effects, acting, story, dialogue and re-watchability. I present the 2011 Full Moon Features movie Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt for this edition. Stick around to see how many cheese slices I give this one.
About Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt
When a group of friends decides to turn an evening of setting up a haunted house into a party, the evening goes well. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happens as they settle in to watch a horror movie called The Killer Eye. A replica of the Eye comes to life and goes on a rampage. Can the friends survive the evening, or will they fall prey to the Eye’s evil plan?

Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt is an original from writer/director Charles Band. Domonic Muir and Kent Roudebush also worked on the screenplay. The film stars Erica Rhodes, Olivia Alexander, Ariana Madix, Chelsea Edmundson and Lauren Furs. The runtime is one hour and 10 minutes.
This film does not have a Tomatometer Score, but it does have an Audience Score of 19 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fun Fact: The movie that the girls watch in this film is a real movie from the same production company.
My Thoughts
Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt is one of the weirdest, cheesiest, craziest things I have seen in my entire life. It is also one of the most overtly sexual movies I have watched. In the horror genre, it is all too common to see female characters naked or being sexy, but this one goes to another level. It is essentially an erotica at times.

Let’s talk about the story. The Killer Eye is nothing more than a movie in the universe established in this film. One of the girls brought a replica of the eye to set up for their haunted house. Another girl brought her mom’s crystal ball (Witch House, anyone?). During the evening, the crystal ball activates and brings the replica to life. Now, a crazy killer eyeball from the eighth dimension is after the five friends. Its goal is to procreate with them, but it will not hesitate to kill them and resurrect a possessed version. An independent, sentient eye wants to mate with humans. Is there anything else to say in terms of the story? I think not.
Moving on to the dialogue, it falls in line with the story. It is incredibly cheesy and downright weird. One of my favorite parts of this film is the multitude of references to other movies. Many remarks involve popular horror films such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers; however, the props and decorations particularly piqued my interest.

Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt has easter eggs for other Full Moon films. References include their cult classic Puppet Master series, Gingerdead Man, Killjoy, Demonic Toys and Doll Graveyard. There are also a few of their movies worked into the dialogue.
Speaking of the props, there are not many special effects in this movie. There is the eye itself, which I’m guessing is rubber and controlled like a puppet. Of course, there is also blood, which is better than The Blair Witch Project, for what that’s worth. Otherwise, it is primarily a few light tricks and overlays. Not horrible, not incredible, just meh. The ridiculousness of the FX is partially due to the overall premise.
The acting adds to the cheesiness. When I watch a cheesy b-horror, there is a level of expectation that the acting has to be over-the-top and, well, bad. The cast manages to bring out the perfect level of acting to suit a movie about a sentient eyeball.

Finally, re-watchability. I’ve seen Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt twice and would consider watching it again. While I do not necessarily recommend this movie for anything other than laughs, it is still better than other films I have seen. I am giving this one 3.5 cheese slices.
There you have it, horror fans, another cheesy horror in the books. Have you seen this one? If so, do you like it? Let me know in the comments. Also, tell me which movie you think I need to add to my list. Until next time, check out the trailer for Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt below. Stay cheesy, stay spooky, and most importantly, watch more horror movies!
