DC Comics Superfan, director extraordinary and all-around good guy, Kevin Smith, has some new news for all of us regarding that Ben Affleck Batman auteur film.

Which is great news.

According to Mr. Smith, in a conversation he had with DC wunderkind Geoff Johns, Johns told him that he and Mr. Affleck had indeed been working on the script for the possible Batman movie.

As he mentioned on his Fat Man on Batman podcast, with co-host Marc Bernardin, Ben Affleck has been, “working on a solo script with Geoff Johns as well. Last conversation I had with Geoff Johns I was like are you working on it? and he said yeah. I said what’s it like man, how do you co-write with someone? and he’s going we just break it up, he takes halves and I take halves and then we write, and then we switch material, and then he goes over mine and I go over his. That sounds so f****** fun man.”

Why is this great news? First of all, it’s Batman! Warner Bros. knows that if they’ve got at least one of their DC properties guaranteed to crank out the dollars — it’s Batman. But, second to that, in a movie so divisive among critics and fans alike, pretty much one of the only things they all agreed on was that Ben Affleck made a surprisingly incredible Batman.

Sure, this Batman may not necessarily be the ones we nerds know from the comics, but it’s the one we’re getting right now, so we may as well have one of the most talented filmmakers in Hollywood working on it. And, with Affleck behind films of such quality like Gone Girl, Argo and The Town — well, Batman is in some pretty epically talented hands right now.
