A star-studded cast, dazzling imagery and undeniable quirk give the first official trailer for Netflix’s Kaos, “much-watch” vibes.
Kaos Theory
In Kaos, Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming and starts to see signs of it everywhere. The gods of Mount Olympus are just one big, dysfunctional family but change is afoot and Riddy (Aurora Perrineau) and Orpheus (Killian Scott) are at the heart of it all.
Trailer
The first Kaos trailer shows a prophecy at play, and if we learned anything about Greek gods in high school, it’s that prophecies are a dangerous thing. This prophecy is, “A line appears, the order wanes. The family falls, and kaos reigns.” Is Zeus’s family the one referred to in this prophecy?
The world of Kaos is striking and colorful in the trailer, except when it’s not. Then, it’s in a drab black and white because they are in Hades. We see that Orpheus and Riddy (Eurydice) are a couple, but she dies and ends up in Hades. Orpheus embarks on a journey to find her and get her back. Meanwhile, Zeus wants respect, even if it’s the kind earned by fear and destruction. He’s also big mad because someone pooped on his statue.

A Pantheon of Gods, Monsters and Mere Mortals in Kaos
The trailer also gives a first look at Billie Piper’s deranged Cassandra, who in Greek mythology could predict the future but only for no one to believe. And Debi Mazar’s Medusa who seems like she is going to be a hoot (a hiss?) and finally Suzy Eddie Izzard’s Lachy. Lachy must be a play on the name Lachesis, one of the Three Fates.
We also see Poseidon (Cliff Curtis), Hera (Janet McTeer), Dionysis (Nabhaan Rizwan), Caneus (Misia Butler), Prometheus (Stephen Dillane) and Ari (Leila Farzad). In addition to these characters, David Thewliss plays Hades.

Goldblum’s Zeus is quirky, charming and looks great in his tracksuits but ultimately, he is a vengeful god. Kaos looks to be a timely allegory about the 1%. It’s an epic struggle between gods, humans and everything in between. The gods don’t want to lose or share their power. And for the gods who don’t exercise as much power, they’re happy to party on the backs of mortals. Unfortunately for the gods, the mortals are rising up which inevitably means war is nigh.
Kaos premiere August 29th on Netflix.
