As reported by Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You) has been tapped to join HBO’s critically lauded series The Last of Us for its second season. Dever will portray Abigail “Abby” Anderson in the dystopian sci-fi drama. Season 2 will be adapted from the 2020 video game The Last of Us Part II. Abby is voiced by Laura Bailey in said game and is the other playable protagonist alongside Ellie.
Abby will have a prominent role in Season 2. The character is a skilled soldier who becomes hardened and aloof following her father’s murder. She embarks on a path of vengeance, endeavoring to bring his killer to justice.

Co-creators, writers, executive producers and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann had this to say regarding Dever joining the cast:
“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro [Pascal], Bella [Ramsey] and the rest of our family.”

Dever is a veteran in the entertainment industry with a stacked resume to match. She broke out onto the scene as Eve Baxter in the Tim Allen-led sitcom Last Man Standing. Other credits include Amy in Booksmart, Marie Adler in Unbelievable and Betsy Mallum in Dopesick.

Additionally, Dever starred as the titular character in 2022’s Hulu comedy Rosaline and last year’s psychological horror-thriller No One Will Save You as Brynn. Next up on the docket is the title role of Belle Gibson in the crime drama Apple Cider Vinegar and the character of Tess Devine, which Dever will voice for the video game Open Roads opposite Keri Russell.
The Last of Us Season 2 will enter production sometime during this year’s early months, with a targeted premiere slated for the beginning of 2025 on HBO. Season 1 is now streaming on Max.
