Are you ready to unpack years of trying to live up to the world’s unbelievable expectations for your future? Well, Netflix’s new superhero series Jupiter’s Legacy is here to start that conversation. In a brand new trailer released today, we are getting our first look at how both generations are dealing with the struggles of superhero life. The series, adapted by showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, is an adaptation of writer Mark Millar and artist Frank Quitely‘s highly popular graphic novel series of the same name. If the trailer is any indication of what we can expect – then we are in for one hell of a series.

Jupiter’s Legacy‘s trailer opens with what looks to be a flashback of the original heroes receiving their superpowers. They would then spend the next 90 years keeping Earth safe from multiple different villains. And after nearly a century, Sheldon (Josh Duhamel) really wonders what they have to show for all their work. But it appears that some believe what they did was right. But it isn’t just the original generation of heroes struggling. Sheldon’s children Brandon (Andrew Horton) and Chloe (Elena Kampouris), are struggling with living in the shadow of their parents.

But they aren’t alone. Everyone we see in this trailer seems to be struggling with the overall expectations and legacy of being a superhero. It’s these stories that I absolutely love. The idea that at the end of the day, these superheroes are still everyday people who struggle like the rest of us. Sheldon is just trying to hold his family together as his children struggle with his absence in their youth. This draws similarities with children growing up with parents who are constantly working all the time and not creating that familial bond. But even with all of this, we still see a ton of action that we expect in a superhero series.

Alongside Duhamel, Horton and Kampouris, the series stars Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, Mike Wade, Matt Lanter, Ian Quinlan, Tyler Mane, David Julian Hirsh and Tenika Davis.

Jupiter’s Legacy will smash onto Netflix on May 7, 2021. You can check out the trailer, poster art and new images below. How excited are you to dive into this new superhero series? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
