Yesterday Netflix dropped the first teaser for their superhero drama Jupiter’s Legacy. The series is based on the graphic novels by Mark Millar and Frank Quitley that navigate the complex dynamics of family, power and loyalty. Steven S. DeKnight serves as the showrunner on the series, which stars Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade and Matt Lanter.

The world’s first generation of superheroes has kept the world safe for nearly a century. But now, their focus has changed as they prepare their children to take over the mantle of a superhero. Of course, this isn’t easy as the younger generation is hungry to prove their worth and struggle to live up to their parent’s legacy. In the teaser for Jupiter’s Legacy, we listen as someone is talking to someone we assume to be their child. He tells them that someday they will be stronger than anyone and evil will rise to challenge them. It is now their job; they are the future.
It seems like we are seeing new superhero series popping up around every corner. But what sets Jupiter’s Legacy away from the rest for me is the idea of passing along a legacy and everything that comes with it. As a parent, I can understand the struggle of wanting your children to do better than you. To give them a better life and world than the one you had. As a child, I can remember the stress of wanting to live up to my parents’ expectations and legacy. Yeah, they will have superpowers and will be responsible for saving the world, but this series looks to tell a story outside of that. A story almost all of us can relate to.
Jupiter’s Legacy will be available on Netflix starting May 7, 2021. What do you think of this type of superhero show? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
