Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming Marvel solo film, Captain Marvel. This, according to Variety, Wednesday. Marvel reportedly had no comment on the news.
If negotiations are successful, Law would play Carol Danvers’ (Captain Marvel) mentor, Doctor Walter Lawson (Mar-Vell). Lawson serves to help Danvers as she learns to deal with and control her newly imbued alien powers. This will be a particularly important relationship, as the film was announced at SDCC to be set in the 90’s. That’s long before The Avengers were an idea. Though, Samuel L. Jackson is expected to make an appearance as Nick Fury.

Captain Marvel is set to be released in theaters on March 8th, 2019. We’ll see Law far before that, most notably in geekdom appearing as young Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. That will hit movie screens November 16, 2018.
