Star of stage and screen Jonathan Groff is joining the cast of Doctor Who. The show’s official site broke the news today, although there isn’t much more information at the moment.

While we don’t know what role Groff will play, “he’s on his way to jump aboard the Tardis in a mysterious and exciting guest role,” says a statement from the BBC. He joins Ncuti Gatwa, who is set to debut as the Fifteenth Doctor during an episode set to air in the 2023 holiday season. On joining Doctor Who, Groff said: “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” Showrunner Russell T Davies is also excited, stating, “This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding onto our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”

Groff’s first major onscreen role was as Jesse St. James in the show Glee. Since then, he’s gained fame as Holden Ford in the series Mindhunter, King George III in Hamilton and Kristoff in Frozen. He’s been nominated for Emmys and Tonys and won a Grammy for his role in Hamilton.
