Still of Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian/Din Djarin and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand in "The Mandalorian." "The Book of Boba Fett" spin-off coming soon.

Praise be to Grogu! Jon Favreau, showrunner for The Mandalorian, paid Good Morning America a visit on Monday to clarify speculation surrounding The Book of Boba FettTVLine reports. So, will the aforementioned be two separate entities, or will Boba Fett take the blaster for The Mandalorian‘s third season?

“This is actually separate from The Mandalorian Season Three,” Favreau confirmed on Good Morning America. According to TVLineThe Book of Boba Fett is currently in production and slated for a December 2021 debut. After that wraps filming, the plan is to begin work on The Mandalorian Season Three. Pedro Pascal will be returning as the enigmatic Din Djarin.

Fans went wild this past Friday when the season finale of The Mandalorian showcased a post-credit scene featuring Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). Fett swoops into Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine, wherein Bib Fortuna rules the roost, and seizes control. Then, the last shot reveals that The Book of Boba Fett will be premiering in December 2021.

Since then, folks the internet over have been speculating whether The Book of Boba Fett will serve as a replacement for The Mandalorian Season Three or as a separate series altogether. Now, thanks to Favreau, we know it’s the latter.

The Book of Boba Fett will star Morrison and Wen. Favreau will serve as executive producer alongside Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez. On Disney Investor Day, we learned that two new spin-offs set in the same universe as The Mandalorian will come to fruition. Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic will eventually culminate into a crossover event with The MandalorianThe Book of Boba Fett will also be set in the same timeline, so it may be safe to presume that it’ll partake in said crossover event.

This makes me immensely happy. I love Pascal and Din Djarin too much to accept a new ringleader in the driver’s seat. I think it’s better for Boba to have his own series with his own moniker attached to it. Plus, this gives the Powers That Be time to really flesh out his saga and create more compelling content for The Mandalorian
