Supergirl

We finally have our Lex Luthor. Jon Cryer has been cast as the infamous villain on the CW’s Supergirl, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Cryer will have a recurring role and will appear in the 15th episode of the current season.

The executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller released a statement saying, “Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

Super Family

Supergirl has been really good about bringing in actors from past super shows.  Helen Slater played Supergirl in the 1984 feature film of the same title. She now portrays the Danvers’ sister mom, Eliza. And Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent/Superman from 1993-1997 in Lois and Clark now plays their dad, Dr. Jeremiah Danvers.  Cain’s Lois, Teri Hatcher was the villain in season 3, as Rhea, a Daxamite Queen who really didn’t like Supergirl. So it makes complete sense that Cryer gets an upgrade from Lenny to Lex this season.

There’s no doubt that Lex will stir some things up for Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).  We definitely saw this coming when their mother Lillian (Brenda Strong) appeared on the show.  You never know about those Luthors.

Lex will appear after the crossover in the second half of season four.  Supergirl airs Sundays on the CW.
