The Continental is going to be expanding quite a bit. According to THR, a TV series based off John Wick is currently in development over at Starz. And to make the deal even sweeter, the face of the series is currently attached to the project. Don’t expect a starring role though.
THR reports that star Keanu Reeves is attached to the project but won’t be a starring role. Instead he may make an appearance (or maybe a few!) since it will be set in the same universe. Should the series come to fruition, it will focus on the inner workings of the assassin refugee hideaway, the Continental Hotel. Chris Collins (The Man in the High Castle, The Wire) will serve as writer and showrunner for the series with some of the original film crew on hand for production.
How exactly this series will work out is a bit of a mystery to me. Would it focus on a set of workers or assassins? Maybe both? What kind of stories will unfold at the hotel? Will it tie into the events of the third film? If it comes to series, we’ll find out. But it’s a good direction to go to. I don’t think many of us would want to see John Wick assassination of the week – it would stale too quickly. The focus on the hotel, which has intrigued fans since it’s appearance in the first film, is a fun step. I dig it.
What do you think of the potential series? Are you looking forward to more John Wick universe or not impressed? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more John Wick news. You’ll see John Wick on his own on May 17, 2019
