The galaxy far, far away just got a little more exciting. Composer John Powell will be joining the untitled Han Solo film to score the film. Unveiled on The Star Wars Show, Powell joins the very exclusive list of composers to score the Star Wars film franchise.
Powell is most notable for not only the Bourne franchise but also popular kids movies like Happy Feet, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon. He was also apart of Han Zimmer’s music studio, Remote Control Productions and has worked with the great composer on multiple films. Powell’s latest work includes the latest Bourne film, Jason Bourne, and children’s animated feature Ferdinand. He currently hasn’t released a statement regarding the hiring.
I believe this bizarre mix of children’s movies and thriller films is exactly what we need for the Han Solo film. As said by many people (include Lucas himself) Star Wars is for kids. And this composer choice is a mix of action-adventure goodness with a bit of spy thrown in – something kids and adults can enjoy. This also gives me hope that the film will involve some smuggling work and not completely lasers blasting. I dig it.
What do you think of the composer choice? Do you like his work? Let us know! Be sure to stay tuned to Geek Girl Authority for more Han Solo film news (which will hopefully be a title!). The untitled Han Solo film will be in theaters May 25th, 2018
