According to Allocine, a French website (Via comicbook.com), we’ve got confirmation that RoboCop star Joel Kinnaman will definitely be taking up the mantle of Rick Flag in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film, out next year.
Of his role in the film, all he would tell Allocine was, “All I can say is that I will be in the movie, and it’s going to be amazing.”
Tom Hardy was originally in the role and then backed out for a variety of reported reasons, including that he didn’t like the script once he was finally able to read it, that he was disappointed with how small his role was, and that he was disappointed that it focused so heavily on The Joker and Deadshot.
Rick Flag, in the comics, is the no-nonsense, gritty leader of the Suicide Squad. In fact, it runs in the family as Rick Flag, Sr. and Rick Flag, Jr. have both been leaders for the squad otherwise known as Task Force X, a shadowy government agency controlled by Amanda Waller. The alst reports on Rick Flag was that he’s actually working undercover for another government agency, but we’ll obviously have to wait until the film comes out to get know this for certain.
