The A Quiet Place franchise is expanding! Paramount Pictures has tapped Jeff Nichols to write and direct a new film set in the same universe as the John Krasinski-led first installment, Deadline reports. Nichols’ project is based on an original idea by Krasinski. Krasinski starred, co-wrote and directed A Quiet Place. Additionally, he wrote and directed A Quiet Place Part II, which stars Emily Blunt. A Quiet Place Part II was initially slated for a March 20 premiere date, but the ensuing global pandemic pushed it back to an April 23, 2021 release.
Now, the plot details for Nichols’ film are being kept under lock and key. However, there’s plenty of room to broaden this universe beyond the scope of the Abbott family. Post-apocalyptic stories are all the rage these days. Perhaps because they feel more relevant now with a global pandemic.
Jeff Nichols is a prolific writer and director known for 2011’s Take Shelter, 2012’s Mud and 2016’s Loving. Ruth Negga scored an Oscar nomination for her gripping performance in Loving. Of course, while most of Nichols’ movies live in the drama realm, Take Shelter possesses some elements of horror. I have no doubt he’ll write and direct something truly compelling for the A Quiet Place universe.
