And high on that list are the new video games that will control all of our past time – or, more accurately – all of our waking hours. January 2023 sure looks like it is kicking off with quite a bang. And if you aren’t sure where to start, we’ve got a handy list of our most anticipated videos.

Forspoken

High on our list is Luminous Productions and Square Enix’s Forspoken. It was set to drop in 2022, but after a delay, it ended up being the video game that kicks off the new year. The upcoming action role-playing adventure drops Frey into the magical world of Athia. It’s beautiful and terrifying, and all Frey wants is to get home. Players will be responsible for helping Frey control her new magical abilities as she explores the world and battles terrifying monsters. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and we can’t wait to dive in.

Forspoken drops January 24, 2023, on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

Fire Emblem Engage

Another year, another new Fire Emblem title from Intelligent Systems and Nintendo. Fire Emblem Engage is shaking up the typical JRPG-style gameplay that we have come to know from the series. Fans will still recognize the combat style, but with a few changes that are sure to be a hit. The story also takes us in a different direction as we explore the new world of Elyos as players become the “Divine Dragon.” For fans of the franchise, this is going to be a must-play. But don’t sleep on this if you haven’t – it looks terrific.

Fire Emblem Engage drops on the Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023.

Dead Space

Spooky scary alien creatures are helping us ring in the new year as we dive into Motive Studio and EA’s Dead Space. If you are thinking, “haven’t I heard of this game before?” – you have. This is a remake of the 2008 game of the same name. The story will follow the same basic storyline as the original and will feature space, mysterious distress signals and mutated human monsters. The real charm of this remake is the use of the Frostbite engine. Prepare to be terrified and be happy for every last moment of it.

Dead Space drops on January 27, 2023, on PC via Steam, PS5 and the Xbox Series X.

Season: A Letter to the Future

Are you looking for something cozier and less spooky? Scavengers Studio has you covered with Season: A Letter to the Future one of our most anticipated video games. The third-person exploration game takes Estelle from her safe village and out into the big world before a mysterious cataclysm washes over the world. Players will explore the world, meet people on their journey and unravel the mysteries around them. And if we had to pick one game that looks simply stunning – it’s this one. It will be the perfect video game to relax with after the stressful holiday season.

Season: A Letter to the Future releases on January 31, 2023, for PC through Steam, PlayStation 4 and PS5.

One Piece Odyssey

Anime fans have two heavy hitters hitting in early January, the first of which is One Piece Odyssey from Bandai Namco Games. The role-playing game puts players into the shoes of several of the Straw Hat Pirates we know and love. After a freak storm and crashing landing on an island, Luffy needs to get the crew back together and escape the island. This new title looks terrific and is a great way to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary!

One Piece Odyssey drops on January 13, 2023, for PC on Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot

The second major anime game comes in the form of Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. Now, this isn’t a new game, but a visual update and new DLC coming to the 2020 game. The fourth DLC, Bardock – Alone Against Fate, follows Goku’s dad in his quest to protect his planet and people. What we are really excited about is the visual update for next-gen consoles. Everything we have seen looks incredible as we head further into this epic adventure.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot will make the jump to PS5 and Xbox Series X on January 13, 2023.
