Peacemaker might live to fight for peace another day. As reported by Deadline, James Gunn chatted with the publication’s podcast Hero Nation about the strong possibility of Season 2 for the mega-popular DC series starring John Cena as the titular superhero.
“There’s a really good chance of that. We’re the biggest show in the world right now … The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited; we all like doing it, we just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is, which is basically me.” Gunn tells Deadline.
Deadline also reveals Gunn has plans for another Suicide Squad spinoff. Will Starro finally get his time in the limelight?
Here’s what Gunn had to say about it:
We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe. I can’t quite say … I can’t say anything. It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.
Of course, as is usual with new projects, Gunn remains tight-lipped regarding details. However, the possibility of a spinoff featuring another Suicide Squad character could be exciting.

While nothing is greenlit or set in stone, Deadline reports that HBO Max “is said to be high on it based on Gunn’s enthusiasm for the idea.”
On a Marvel-related note, Gunn talks about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the final chapter of his MCU trilogy. He reveals how this film marks the end of an era:
This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians. It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be … I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.

While the Guardians news is bittersweet, I’m excited by the prospect of a second season for Peacemaker. Season 1 is delightful, raunchy, whimsically violent and vibrantly colorful with a killer soundtrack. If Gunn can replicate this kind of success with another Suicide Squad spinoff, I’m all for it.
Peacemaker drops new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debuts in theaters on May 5, 2023.
